Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

Nothing new. Atheists are naturally scared of Islam. Not only are they physically scared of Islam but also intellectually.
You've got atheists confused with fundie nut christians. How you did this I'll never figure out.

Yeah it is. I can say God exists but you can not say God doesn't exist, at all. If God doesn't exist, than prove it.
You can say whatever you want. That doesn't make it a fact. And none of us have to prove 'god' doesn't exist. You believe it, you prove it.

Although in classical philosophy, the burden of proof falls on the one making a positive assertion, in a more practical sense, it falls on anyone who is trying to convince others to change their beliefs or viewpoints. I have often used the salesman/prospect analogy. It is up to the salesman to make his case. The prospect, on the other hand, has no obligation to explain why he isn't buying, or even to listen at all.

I see the fundie/evangelist voices in the atheist forum as salesmen, but they often pose questions that attempt to reverse those positions. It doesn't change anything. We're the prospects. We don't have any obligation to listen when they pitch their snake oil.

Here is the thing, I say God exists and I have proof. You say God doesnít exist and that you have no prove. Makes no sense. Therefore, you canít say God doesnít exist unless you have proof. So you canít claim atheism but you can be an agnostic. Do you understand now, or do I have to water it down some more for you?

You cannot prove that any god exists any more than someone can prove there is not god.

we can prove that the mythical god of the bible does not exist. that has been proven over and over time and again.

it is based on proven lies.

there may be some god out there, but it is not that one.

No, if you say you have proof that god exists, you are openly lying. without a doubt, that is a bald-faced lie.

you do not have such proof.

Most atheists define atheism as lack of belief in deities. But the real question is whether you're here to "convert" atheists to theism. If so, you have an obligation to provide compelling reasons for us to do so. On the flip side, if atheists are insisting that you change your mind, they have to provide similarly compelling evidence and logic. But the sad reality is that few on either side really expect to change the minds of their adversaries or even make a serious attempt to do so. Mostly each side pokes at the other with mindless animosity. It's utterly pointless.

I will not call you a liar because you probably really believe you have proof, but you would be lying to yourself if you cannot produce the proof you say you have.

I'm a Muslim and I don't believe that the bible is the word of God so I have no idea how this even applies to me.

I agree with you on last part of your statement. Sorry to disappoint you but I'm not here to convert you because we don't believe in converting people in Islam. It's really sad that you guys know nothing about other religions except what you see in the media.

ok, that's fair enough. But I was simple making a point. My point is that one can not make a claim without proof.

The evangelistic atheists seem sad they are ignored.

so sorry....not in a cult

evangelical atheist = one who not only believes there is no god or other supreme being, but is obsessed with convincing everyone around them to become an atheist too, usually through hard-line intolerance (the kind they accuse other religions of). When cornered they usually try to put down their opponent's religion and bash them for 'blind faith', not realizing that their belief that there is no god is no more or less valid or provable than the other guy's belief that there is one.

Well, I'm not the first human. The prove that God exists is the Qur'an. The Qur'an is the divine word of God and therefor proves the exists of God.
