Voting rights gains of '60s in jeopardy, Attorney General Eric Holder says

Full story: The Wichita Eagle

"Despite our nation's long tradition of extending voting rights ... a growing number of our fellow citizens are worried about the same disparities, divisions and problems that - nearly five decades ago - so many fought to address," Holder told a meeting of the Conference of National Black Churches convened by the Congressional Black Caucus to ... Holder's out of line and out of control! This is more of the "we gotta keep them on the plantation." When will the black community wake up and tell the likes of Holder, Jackson, Sharpton, Waters and others to take a hike?

The Republicans are trying to get their man Mitt Ronmey and they are doing this by any means nessassary, even if that means taking away our right to vote. They do not want that half Black man in that office for another term.

You're half right.

Tell me, do you have a driver's license?

Do you have a checking account? A home loan? A credit card?

Do you have utilities in your name?

Do you have a college ID?

Did you have to furnish an ID to get any of those?

Do you have to furnish an ID at Wal-Mart or any other store when you write a check?

Ever been stopped for a traffic violation? Did you have to provide ID for that?

If you answered yes to any of these, then just STFU!

No one is taking away your right to vote. They are only asking the same thing of you that the stores, banks, police do..... prove who you are.

What is so hard to understand about that?

I personally feel that this is just a ploy by Holder and Mr. Obama to get out the Black vote. He has brought la raza into the WH and left his so called Black Brothers out in the cold. Mr. Obama and Holder have done more for the illegal aliens than Blacks. If you guys are so pissed off, be pissed poff for the jobs that the illegals have replaced you in, then you should want that to stop. Just because this is the 21st Century and yes, illegal aliens are voting. Then, why not have an ID? Why is that so hard? These days, you have to have an ID to board a plane, you must have a valid ID to pick up a prescription, Doctors visit, cashing checks, etc. etc, why is this so hard to understand? I think you guys are being played for fools!!

You're right, but this goes beyond the right wing effort to thwart Obama. These new restrictions carry the danger that millions of people can be disfranchised as we--or rather our parents and ancestors were--before the 1960s.
The Republican Party TODAY plays a role similar to the Dixiecrats in the past. To a large extent, the Repubicans ARE Dixiecrats under a different label.
And just as the Dixiecrats who destroyed Reconstruction weren't satisfied with getting rib of Black (or liberal white) persons from the legislature, but with disfranchising people over the long term, today's fascistic Republicans are not determined ONLY to defeat Obama, but to disfranchise MILLIONS of people to insure that reactionaries and racist with have a lock hold on government....
We must mobilized to defeat these measures IMMEDIATELY.

Republicans have been on a disenfranchising agenda as a 2011-2012 strategy. You need to look past the smoke and mirrors.

“As observed by the American Civil Liberties Union include the following: photo ID’s, proof of citizenship for registration, reducing the number of days for early voting, restrictions on third party registration activities, limiting the ability of voters to change their address on Election Day, systematic purging of registered voters, challenging student voters as non-residents, unfounded voter fraud, and moving or closing voting precincts in minority communities. Clearly, some of these practices are meant to decrease voter turnout. Efforts to do this are unconstitutional and should be prohibited without exception.”

There is almost NO voter fraud in this country. The motivation for the ID laws is obvious. Is it a coincidence that they were proposed AFTER Barack Obama became president with an overwhelming level of support from minority voters?

Holder has filed suit in many states and will continue to fight this right-wing attack on the minority vote.

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Cancer

Love could catch you by surprise today. You might be strongly attracted to someone who isn't your usual type at all but who makes your knees go weak all the same, or you could get caught up in an illicit relationship that's exciting because it has to be kept a secret. If you're already involved with someone they'll need plenty of freedom and won't appreciate feeling emotionally tied down. You need to let them off the leash for a short while!
