Funny how the NRA has fought background checks tooth and nail.
Funny how that is.
And they will continue to fight them tooth and nail right up until they see that they are going to lose and then suddenly they will insist they were for them all along.
Like when they fought background checks in gun shows in those few states that require them... right up until they saw they were going to lose.
Funny how that is.
New legislation will require background checks on all gun sales and transfers.
Tick tock.
Gee I guess passage of that assault weapon ban you were thumping your chest over last week doesn't look so promising ,does it? How about the magazine restriction to ten ? What happened, your Chinese made tick tock stopped ticking? LOL

Not all.
Yes, we know you're willing to write off a certain percentage of victims, like the 20 kids in Connecticut.
You've made that abundantly clear. And the more you and the rest of the gun nuts keep doing that, the more people come over to my side and realize it's time to start banning some of these weapons even if it doesn't stop every murder; even if it only stops 1 murder of those you write off as not important enough to worry about.

Heck we could ban residents of Detroit from coming out of there houses after the sun sets. Just think of all the lives the Detroit curfew would save.

nonsense sugar plum. They don't attract anyone any more than any other semi auto rifle does. And the guns you are calling assault rifles don't have many or any of those features either. Sorry you are so ignorant and afraid of guns. You shouldn't get one if you are so scared. They don't scare me at all. I have seen people packing these guns right down the street and I walked right by them. Since the statistics back up what I say and they prove with no doubts that you are an idiot and over reacting.
Assault rifles as defined by the federal govt DO contain at least one or more of those features.

So once again I proved you wrong. Assault rifles ARE different from other semi-automatic rifles.

I'm not afraid of any gun. My only concern are the wackos who want to own certain guns- specifically assualt weapons.

Since we can't ban people, the only other option is to ban the guns those people want.

Nope, anyone who feels they need an assualt weapon instead of a normal semi-automtic weapon is a potential danger to society and therefore suspect.

NO one runs into elementary schools with lawn darts and kills 26 people, Kneepads, and there is no association of idiots that insist that every should have a right to carry lawn darts into schools and churches and bars.

The most unfortunate part of this equation, of course, is the rest of us have to put up these tiny-dicked toys and the risks you tiny-dicks inflict on US.

Lawn darts- for the most part- only put at risk the people who played with them. Firearms put at risk the owners... but mostly the family of the owners, and then everyone in range of the firearms when these mostly men - men with tiny dicks such as yourself- have a bad day.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.(AP)-- Authorities in New Mexico say a teenage boy has fatally shot two adults and three children inside an Albuquerque home.

The boy has been booked on murder and other charges.

Bernalillo County sheriff's spokesman Aaron Williamson says the boy's motive and connection to the five victims aren't immediately known.

Williamson says investigators who received a report of the shooting Saturday night are trying to determine whether the victims were related.

yes I am willing to write a certain number off just the same as you are willing to write off many times that amount for other products. Only about 100 people a year are murdered with such weapons and you have no prove or logic to show that those people wouldn't have been murdered by hammer or some other sort of weapon or gun
Of course the difference is other products which can cause death have other valid uses.

An assualt rifle has no valid civilian use which can't be accomplished with a regular semi-automatic rifle. The only reason for civilian use of an assault rifle over a regular semi-automatic rifle in to increase the body count of innocent civilians killed.

How many died from someone accidentally picking up a hammer?

HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA GA)-

A 14-year-old fatally shot his 15-year-old brother early Saturday morning, according to police.

Henry County police officers were called to the brothers' residence on Deer Trace Drive in McDonough at about 2:41 a.m.

A friend of the brothers was spending the night. The teens somehow got their hands on a handgun in the home.

The gun was unloaded, but sometime during the evening one of the teens loaded the handgun, according to the Henry County Police Department. At some point, the 14-year-old reportedly pointed the gun at his 15-year-old brother and pulled the trigger. The bullet hit the older brother in the chest, killing the teen, according to police.

In a news release to CBS Atlanta, police stated the shooting was ruled accidental, but the case is still under investigation.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP)— Police in eastern Idaho say a 21-year-old Idaho Falls woman is dead and a 22-year-old Blackfoot man has been taken into custody.

Bonneville County Sheriff Paul J. Wilde says that at about 1 p.m. Saturday police responded to a reported shooting and found Kristy M. Aschliman lying to the side of Lincoln Road east of Ammon. Paramedics determined she was dead.

Police say her car was about 50 yards away stuck in the snow.

Witnesses reported two men running from the scene and police located Adan A. Arroyo at a residence and took him into custody on suspicion of murder.

Police say they have interviewed all subjects they believe to be involved and are continuing to investigate.

TILLAMOOK — An investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, medical examiners, and Tillamook County District Attorney's Office into the death of a female found late Friday along Oregon Highway 6 about 18 miles east of Tillamook confirmed the woman's death was from homicidal violence.

Investigators positively identified the victim as a 16-year old Beaverton-area woman and confirmed a person of interest related to this investigation died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound along the northern California coast.

Criminal investigators from the Tillamook County Major Crime Team, with the assistance of State and Tillamook County medical examiner offices, identified the victim as Kayla Ann Hendrickson, 16.

An autopsy done Sunday morning, at the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the cause of death was from gunshot wounds.

Investigators were also contacted Saturday by Humboldt County, California Sheriff's Office regarding a death investigation they were conducting involving a male subject in a vehicle matching the description of one which was of interest in connection with the Highway 6 death investigation.

The male reportedly shot himself and died later at an area hospital. The joint investigation between Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and Tillamook County Major Crime Team confirmed the deceased male is known to Hendrickson and is tentatively believed to be involved with her death.

The male's name is withheld pending confirmation that next of kin have been adequately notified.

Here is what OSP said happened:

On Jan. 18, at approximately 10:14 p.m., a vehicle described as an unknown make or model late 1980s to early 1990s full-size pickup was observed by a witness stopped on the north side shoulder of the westbound lane on Highway 6 between milepost 18 and 19.

Two people, a man and woman, were seen along the highway near the stopped pickup that was also described as having a chrome colored "headache" rack behind the rear window. The witness also an eastbound commercial truck passed through the area about this same time.

About 25 minutes later, the witness contacted a Tillamook police officer advising of the suspicious circumstances along Highway 6 near milepost 18 about two miles east of Jordan Creek Road. An OSP trooper responded and found the dead woman along the highway.

yes just about 100% of people who own semi auto rifles are normal. It is an old liberal tactic to discredit those with whom they disagree.

By the way you are an admitted queer. And you call anyone else abnormal????

Many of very normal people are heading to gun shows and stores as we speak to but a semi auto rifle.

so does a rifle have valid uses. A so called assault weapon is also no more dangerous than any other semi auto rifle. The fact that gun cowards slap a label on the rifles and then demonise them don't make them any more dangerous. A so called assault weapon can't increase the body count any more than a semi auto hunting rifle can. So your ignorance is showing again. And your fear is foolish

I don't know please tell me. And less than 100 people died by a so called assault weapon. So what's your point?

I can also fill the pages with kids that are killed with autos, with medication, and by parents who drink beer. Children die in all sorts of ways.

Supreme Court Gun Ruling Doesn’t Block Proposed Controls

immigrants and by drug addicts. They have upheld laws making it illegal to carry guns near schools or in post offices. They have upheld laws concerning unregistered weapons. And they have upheld laws banning machine guns and sawed-off shotguns.
Nor does Heller impose any major hurdles to many of the most common legislative proposals in the wake of the Newtown shootings, said Adam Winkler, a law professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the author of “Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America.” Among the responses that Heller allows, he said, are better background checks, enhanced mental health reporting and a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips.
There is one major possible exception to the trend, and it is quite fresh. Last week, a divided three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago, struck down an Illinois law that banned carrying loaded guns in public. Judge Richard A. Posner, writing for the majority, said the ruling was required by the Heller decision.
The Heller case, decided by a 5-to-4 vote, struck down a ban on handguns kept in the home for self-defense, saying it violated the Second Amendment.
After the shootings on Friday in Newtown, which killed 20 children and 7 adults before the gunman took his own life, policy makers — mostly Democrats — have called for tougher gun laws. Of the 12 deadliest mass shootings in American history, six have occurred since 2007.
The proposed measures include bans on some kinds of weapons and ammunition magazines, more sharing of information among government agencies, and an expansion of the settings in which background checks are required. In California, Democratic lawmakers are seeking to regulate ammunition sales more tightly.
The main obstacle to the passage of such measures is likely to be politics, not constitutional law, scholars say.
“We are aware of the problem of handgun violence in this country,” Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the majority in the Heller decision.“But,” he added,“the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table.”
Still, the decision also contained a long list of laws and regulations that would, the court said, be unaffected. Among them were “laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools.”
“Nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill,” Justice Scalia wrote. Government buildings in general could still ban guns. And the court said it had no quarrel with “laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.”
Justice Scalia added that laws banning “dangerous and unusual weapons” are “another important limitation on the right to keep and carry arms.” He gave an example:“M-16 rifles and the like.”
When the case was argued in 2008, Justice Scalia suggested that other kinds of weapons and ammunition could be regulated.“I don’t know that a lot of people have machine guns or armor-piercing bullets,” he said.“I think that’s quite unusual.”

Why would Obama take another oath of office twice. He hasn't followed the first oath he took, and he has no intention of following it this term. Why didn't he just do another Presidential decree, after all the Supreme Court and Congress are just speed bumps to him.
