VICTORY!

God bless the humane angels of mercy Vern Buchanan, a Republican... and Alcee Hastings, a Democrat!

The House also passed a nonbinding resolution urging other nations to end the dog and cat meat trade. It asks the governments of China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, India and other nations to ban consumption of the animals!

History records that in the first part of the 15th century, a young French peasant girl, Joan of Arc, was called to save her country from its enemies. There was something about her that endeared her to her followers and caused them to have a respect - almost a reverence, an awe - for what she was attempting to do. Her sacred sword, her consecrated banner and her belief in her mission helped her to sweep away the armies that were before her.

It has been said, and rightly so, that courage is transferable and that if a leader has a sense of mission and purpose and an absolute conviction in what can be accomplished, people gather around and follow this leader. This conviction was demonstrated by the courage displayed by Joan of Arc. She sent a thrill of enthusiasm through the French army and gave them the courage and confidence that a king, a statesman and a president could not produce.

However, she, like all other leaders, had her share of cynics and skeptics. On one occasion, she said to one of her generals,'I will lead the men over the wall'.

The general said,'Not a man will follow you'.

At that point, Joan of Arc did what leaders with a mission and a conviction always do. She replied,'I won't be looking back to see whether they're following me'.

Joan of Arc was burned at a stake in the marketplace in Rouen before a crowd of 10,000 people.
Perhaps you'd care to share her fate.

So, there are two people who think that passing a law against something no one does is a huge victory. What's next? A law against eating pterodactyls? People in the United States don't eat dogs. Granted there might be a minuscule number of people in this country who think of dogs and cats as food but they are a pitiful few. Even the hungry and homeless avoid eating dogs and cats in favor of dumpster dining. You've passed a meaningless law that can't/won't be enforced and squandered time and resources that could have been used productively on a real problem. People like you and Goodman always seem to ignore the law of unintended consequences. History has taught us that banning something usually results in creating a very lucrative black market for the banned item. The more vigorously the ban is enforced, the more valuable the banned item becomes. So, not only have you wasted time and resources on a meaningless law, you've probably created the beginnings of a new black market. Congratulations.

BTW, those countries where eating dog or cat is culturally acceptable don't care what is illegal in the United States. If you're trying to send a message to them.....it falls on deaf ears.

So people eating dogs and cats was a big problem in the states? Wouldn't this already fall under animal cruelty which is already a crime? What a waste of resources.

This so basic. I don't care what is illegal in Mexico unless I am in Mexico. I would guess that Mexicans don't care what is illegal here in the US unless they are in the US.

You guess wrong. Read the news more often. Illegal Mexicans don't care what is illegal in the U.S. when they are in the U.S. Rape, murder, DUI, driving without a license, importing and dealing drugs. The list goes on and on.

Victory what victory?

You do realize this totally worthless bill still has to pass the Senate before it's passed into law don't you?

And even if it does pass, how many law enforcement agencies do you think are going to waste their valuable resources looking for someones dog or cat boiling in a pot in America?
