So the GOPasaurs will do ANYTHING to prevent a vote.

Hmmm, what happened to "let the people vote"?

I guess that doesn't apply when you OPPOSE the issue being debated.

Typical hypocrites.

The people are voting. They are calling their Representatives, writing them, E-mailing them, and letting them know they will not allow the Democrats to steamroll them. We have a Representative Republic, or didn't you learn that in third grade? Should have gone to private school.

The GOPasaurs in the Senate are prevent the other people in the Senate from voting.

They're people too you know.

Harry Reid finally grew a pair of balls, so the GOPasaurs won't be able to stall forever.

If the Republicans ever become the majority in the Senate (Heaven Forfend!!), they can bring back the filibuster rule. In the meantime, I'm sure they can come up with more ways to offend America.

The people? What people?

What's wrong with majority rule as opposed to minority rule?

If Republicans don't like majority rule with the Dems
in the majority then let them gain the majority themselves
the old fashioned way.....through an honest election.

You understand what an honest election is?

Nobody is talking about minority rule. The issue is minority voice.
Democrats have been using shady shenanigans to silence the voice of the American people ever since Obama was elected. Obamacare was passed in the middle of the night without a single vote from the minority. The minority was even prevented from arguing their case!
Then, Obama decided on his own to delay enforcement of some provisions. This occurred without any minority voice.
Now, we have a new rule in the Senate that was narrowly established without any support from the minority.
This rule effectively silences the minority. Until now, the Senate was a deliberative body that worked toward consensus. What we have now is not majority rule - that is what we had before the rule change. What we have now is tyranny of the majority. It is a large step to the dismantling of this democratic republic.

Nope, requiring 50%+1 vote to pass something is the very definition of majority rule.

No one is preventing the crybaby GOPasaurs from calling all the press conferences in the world.

Nope. We had majority rule before the rule change. What we have now is tyranny of the majority where the minority is silenced. That is what you are defending , you know, when you complain about the minority merely voicing their opinions in accordance with the new rule. Such thinking was the foundation of the Inquisition and, more recently, the Gulag.

See it however you want, it won't change anything.

Btw, since the GOPasaurs insist it's such a foundational principle, I'm sure they'll change the rule back to the 60 vote super-majority (notice the terminology) if they ever get majority control of the Senate.

Oh, that brings up another point. Does that mean the GOPasaurs don't get majority control of the Senate unless they have 60 GOPsaurs Senators elected?

Hmm, I'm guessing the answer to both would be an emphatic (and hypocritical) "no".

So much for their supposed "principles"...

You're right nothing will change. But is this really the change you were hoping for?
The eradication of a rule that worked for over 200 years is not a step forward. It undermines the republic by silencing dissent. What will be the next step? Perhaps people will lose their jobs for saying politically incorrect thoughts.

It is only a matter of time, and a short one at that, before the Democrats themselves use the same tactics to silence the minority in their own party. Some say it's already started. When the minority have no voice, the majority will also lose their voice soon after. Then, only the elite have anything to say.

When the minority can filibuster virtually
every bill they don't like, it's minority rule.

Slavery & segregation worked for over 200 years in America as well.

How has the minority's voice been "silenced"?

Who is preventing the GOPasaurs from holding press conferences? Or sending out emails? Or doing ad buys?

Oh that's right, NO ONE.

Just another red herring from the Teabaggers.

If the GOPasuars hadn't abused the rule, the Dems wouldn't have been forced to change it.

So will the GOPasaurs reinstate the rule if they ever take majority control-(that would be 60 Senators by your logic) of the Senate?

Wrong. You had a Super majority rule, which the right had been using effectively to prohibit any enactment of major legislation.

You can still do you fillibusters just like you were before you hold everything up. You just can not do them silently for weeks on end anymore. You now need someone up there talking to hold things up. You republican politicians better start a line...

BTW, there still like 90 federal judge seats that Obama may set appointments for if he so desires.

The Dems have made a major mistake, and when they become the minority in 2014 they WILL find out just what a big mistake it was. Once you change the rules you better be prepared to live with them even when it won't go so well for your party.

This was the stupidest thing the Dems have done in a while, and it will come back to bite them. Then all the libs on here will be crying about how the voice of the people is being shut out and it's not fair. Just remember....nothing is going to stop you from running some ads and holding press conferences....of course neither will change a damn thing.

Turn about is FAIR PLAY!!!!

Actually majority rule is fair play.

Those of us who are not complete partisan hacks support this because we know it's good for the COUNTRY, rather than good for one party or the other.

Elections have consequences.

It's works the same for BOTH parties.

Wrong.

Since the Tea Fringe can't stop acting like children and their temper tantrums lead to govt shutdowns, this leaves an indelible stain on their brand.

And since the GOP establishment and worse, tea fringe can't and won't change their 1950's attitude toward the change in demographics, they will not win anything in 2014. They will lose seats in the house and senate because of this.

It's too late for them to cozy up to Hispanics. They cringe at the thought at immigration reform. Heritage Action and their ilk has ruined the party. No promising outcome for them in the foreseeable future.

It's obvious they hate immigrants, they hate the poor, hate women, blacks, women, gays. Hell, they now hate the Pope!

Maybe, just maybe, they'll right their ship and do what's right for the country and win over voters by 2024. It's too late for them to win any seats or the White House until then.

Hillary for 8 years? Highly probable. Yeah yeah, the GOP has Christie. Sure, he'll look good in the primaries and will probably win, but 08 and 12 proved that grumpy white men aren't popular any more.

Reince Pubus needs to have another strategy session. Americans aren't buying what they're selling. That dog won't hunt.

Sincerely,

Respected Chef
