just a comment to qualify your remarks about Strom....he's no better, or worse, than your ex grand kleegle Robert Byrd....did anybody ever determine how many lynchings Robt was involved in, back in his heyday as the grand wizard?

You still haven't answered - if global warming is such an imminent threat how do you propose stop it? Hint: you can save time by admitting you don't have an answer.

I have no data regarding Byrd's involvement in lynchings, but I can tell you this. Robert Byrd repented and changed, while Strom Thurmond remained a rotten piece of racist flesh as he entered the grave.

When Obama was a new senator and visited the Senate building for the first time, it was Sen. Byrd who greeted him first, welcomed him, showed him around, introduced him to the others, and made him feel comfortable.

Byrd's transformation also resulted in his receiving a perfect 100% rating from the NAACP. He proposed $10 million to fund a Martin Luther King national memorial in Washington, DC.
Strom Thurmond died an unrepentant racist, while Robert Byrd died an honorable man.

Having said all this, I'm not sure about your earlier question. I never suggested that the GOP had been the party of racism in the past. Many Southern Democrats in those days were repulsively racist. Things are different today though. Racism is mainly a Republican problem today, a problem which may ultimately result in its undoing.

i found this article interesting. everyone loves to stereotype the deep south as racist, but look at the top 10! also, i know mississippi is usually at the bottom of every list.....but this time it's actually a good thing.

Interesting, though you are referring to data from 2011. Plus, not all of your data relate to racism. Nevertheless, I am referring to a time long ago, when the deep south was riddled with racism, with much of it emanating from the Democratic Party aka the Dixiecrat Party. Mississippi ranked far higher then.

I am saying what my post said. If that is how you interpreted it, my post must have lacked clarity.

As far as I'm concerned, there are no "good" racists. Racism is a malignancy. Robert was cured. Strom was not.
