Santorum Booed for Comparing Gay Marriage To Polygamy

Buzzfeed reported on the booing Santorum received today for speaking out against gay marriage in a New Hampshire town hall meeting.

The "know your audience" concept was overlooked by Santorum, who was more in his niche speaking against gay marriage in Iowa than in the more secular New Hampshire. When a young female audience member inquired about "two men who want to marry the person that they love," Santorum interrupted:

What about three men? It's important that if we're going to have a discussion based on rational thought, that we employ reason. Reason says that if you think it's ok for two, you have to differentiate with me why it's not OK for three. Let's just have a discussion about what that means. If she reflects the values that marriage can be for anybody or any group of people, as many as is necessary, any two people or any three or four, marriage really means whatever you want it to mean.

What's your take on Santorum's position? And is it fair to equate gay marriage with polygamy?

Woof, Marriage is an English word with a definition. There is a group that is attempting to change that definition to include other meanings. A majority of people believe this is not OK. Most of those people believe it is OK for two men to live together and love together. Some rights are provided to the combination of one man and one woman, because that combination produces offspring and therefore heredity issues. The combination of a man and a man may be extended certain rights as well. They should, however, come up with a new name for the combination.

Woof, It is very telling that Romney brought in McBeercan to endorse him in NH. Most Republican ground troops can't stand McBeercan! This really shows just how out of touch the GOP Establishment is. Romney couldn't have done a dumber thing!!!

I think it's a very weak argument to dangle polygamy as next on the slippery slope as an opposition to same sex marriage. Santorum is showing his lack of intellectual acumen. He doesn't stand a chance.

For those of us who have no interest in changing our government into a theocracy, you are actually pointing out a very big problem: We cannot consider putting into power those who would set policy based on their religion. Point of fact: the tea baggers are going to have to land somewhere with Bachmann leaving and with GingRICH falling on his face in IOWA.

Whether you agree or disagree, Rick brings up a good point. Where do you draw the line? I'm not seeing a lot of opposition to civil unions of any kind. However, when you start to redefine marriage, you open up a whole new can of worms.

And once that can is opened, you really do open up the discussion far beyond just two men, two women or any number of each. And before you question the notion of "any number of each" just remember that once you open the gates, it's no longer a union between man & woman, so the question remains - where do you cross the line?

But what he says is true and I bet there's not many, if any, who can differentiate between two people loving each and three. Beside the number of course. If the numerical portion is the deciding factor, then why isn't gender?

We already know other cultures believe sincerely in polygamy and we welcome them in by the hundreds of thousands every year.
