McCain running away from debate?

There are 4604 comments on the blogs.kansascity.com story from Sep 24, 2008, titled McCain running away from debate?. In it, blogs.kansascity.com reports that:

John McCain doesn't like televised debates that much. Instead, he prefers to do town hall meetings, the informal Q-and-A sessions where he can engage the people directly without interference from that pesky news media. And no wonder: he revived his 2008 presidential bid by barnstorming the country doing town halls.

Well there are plenty of candidates available for the debates. Only that the debates have been seized by the democrats and republicans. The debates need to be open to all candidates and to get rid of all the little BS rules protecting the republicrats from having to answer a real question.

I don't think the small amount of time the debates will take are going to make much difference. The financial damage is done.

Now we need to hear what the candidates have to say. The poll I saw said three of four Americans believe the debates should go on as scheduled.

McCain is running scared because he's part of the problem in Washington. He's just another big government Republican promoting corporate welfare.

This illustrates how desperate McCain is. You don't gamble when you're winning. You pick a safe candidate like Biden and maintain your status quo. You only shake things up when the risk of doing something new is less than the risk of doing the same thing. I predict McCain pulls more and more of these kind of stunts leading up to the election under the guise of "putting politics aside" but make no mistake, this is a calculated political maneuver by McCain's campaign

by what obama has said he shows the negelect that herbert hoover showed during the great depression. by having the people figure out there problems and he says he's for change. like they said at the convention some people use change to promote their careers while their are others who use their careers to make change

Oh, please. As if taking a few hours to appear for a debate is going to make a difference... You need to give up the "leadership" (note the spelling) excuse. A President will have to handle more than one crisis at a time- that is true leadership The problem is that it is probably too taxing for McCain and he is trying to gain political capital from this.

Have you ever stepped back, looked at the kind of statements you make online and consider that, no matter what polical side you are on, you present yourself as some kind of weirdo nutcase? If not, you should do that and think about why someone would act that way unless they were one.

Ooh! He canceled Letterman. You know he's serious. How gullible are you? He knows Obama owns the economy when it comes to likely voters this is his last stand to retake the issue. I don't think it's going to work. I think most people are smarter than that. The fact that he has a bunch of reporters following him and he's still delivering press addresses despite his "suspending his campaign" and he's "challenging" Obama to do the same should tell you something.
