Poconos train to New York City is on track

The two-decade effort to restore passenger rail service from the Poconos to New York City has received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency , clearing a critical hurdle that now allows the $550 million project to be funded. Full Story

Russian people dont go to poconos to expand their "crime rings". We go there because back in the motherland, it was tradition to spend summers and winters in our country homes. Stop by one of these "criminals" houses one summer, i guarantee all you will see is vodka, BBQing , and fishing poles. As for us Eastern Europeans treating you guys like shit, well, most first and second generation Russian immigrants treat Americans like shit, so dont feel too special. You can count on the fact that the Poconos will be going even further "downhill" as you put it, as I am certain my generation will be buying out your property left and right as we grow older. Enjoy it while you can!

Born and raised in Pennsylvania. I love this state. It's beautiful, and a very large portion of my family/friends live here. But a commuter rail is a GOOD thing people. Don't you see that if we can get more people into Pa., our state will get more tax dollars? Is that bad? But let me get this straight, having New Yorkers in Pa. is bad because they are "bad" people? What makes them so different than biggots in this comments section. That's just so damned hypocritical, can't you see?
Heaven forbid anyone come to this state to ruin its good name. Yeah, because Backwoods hillbillies and bigots are real respectable types. And not all people that ride the trains are bad people. It's relaxing, and a bit fun! Get over it dude. The culture wars are over. Your backwards ways are gone, cultural tolerance and acceptance is in. Who knows, you might even find a friend out there.
And honestly, the trains are better than buses and driving. The tunnel...will always be a horrific experience.
It's naive to think that having more people will result in more income. While the state will collect more taxes, school districts will need to spend more (and since the cost of eductating one student outweights the new taxes their family pays, that means the rest of the community has to foot the bill), plus with new people comes new housing, roads, etc., which again come at some cost to all taxpayers. We've seen it here in the Lehigh Valley (how many new schools have been built in the past 5 years?), and the higher taxes are especially hard on seniors. I don't know enough about this whole project to say if it's a good idea or not, but the "new people bring new tax money" arguement is flawed.

This is only being done so that NY can ship its homeless and welfare cases to PA where the housing and land is much cheaper! Just another scam on the residents of PA.

The train will never happen so all the welfare scum should not be excited. The foolish commuters from ny/nj who overpaid 100% during the housing bubble are now being foreclosed on left and right. Prices of homes that sold for 240k in 2006 are now sitting empty with asking prices around 150-170k because the fools are not even willing to buy a McMansion or twin anymore.

We have seen Allentown ruined by the locust from NY and NJ. We don't need anymore thinking they are welcome here. They are NOT!
I keep hearing how NY or NJ is oh so much better, so why didn't they stay there?!? We don't want you here and resent you all trying to force yourselves on PA and make it like the crime infested rat hole you moved from.
If you are going to move here, learn the language, We already think your ignorant, no need to prove it by needing everything translated for your dumb behind. Oh, and the next one I hear bragging about collecting welfare here and in NY, I'm turning your ignorant behind in to both states, got it?
Allentown started going to major crap since 78 was built and has gone COMPLETELY downhill since then. Now we experienced the housing bubble and people are getting foreclosed left and right (more hud coming soon) and guess what it's going to get worse.

I heard that they were making NYC a maximum security prison, with really high walls. They will let the criminals run wild, as they have been for years now. The train will be used to transport prisoners to the jail. I only hope no presidents decide to fly over this maximum security facility.
