If you listened carefully, you will know that Romney likes Big Bird and never said he wanted to kill him. What he objects to is using taxpayer money to support him and the rest of PBS. You will try to tell me that PBS is a non-profit public service institution, and offers cultural and educational enrichment, therefore it is in the national interest to support it. Ha! They have you believing that malarkey. Take a close look at all the licensing agreements for DVDs, books, clothing, shoes, dishes, home decor, etc and then try to convince yourself that it is "non-profit". It is just another Disneyland raking in tons of money. So why should taxpayers have to foot the bill for it?
Oh, yeah, the arts are important to society because of the cultural benefits. I agree with you there, but EVERY culture, every civilization since the dawn of time has had art, dance, music, and more recently, literature. Look at ancient Egypt, the Mayans, even the cave art. It is an expression of our humanity, and we will continue to produce it whether we get government for it or not. If an artistic creation has true merit, people will be willing to pay for it. Eliminate the government support, and we will see a lot less trash that someone claims is "art".
No one wants to admit how deeply in debt we are, but it is time to start tightening our belts. And anything that doesn't meet the test has got to go! That is the point that Romney was making.

"littler more succinctly"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
I'm assuming this was an NBC29 typo, but it is an actual quote, wowsers. I peed a little from laughing so hard.

You should laugh yourself back to school then (if they'll accept your incontinence problem).

"Shadel says both should focus on clarity and leave the cheap attacks at the door."
Clarity is exactly what they cannot bring to the debate. With just a couple of minutes on a topic to make an impression, cheap shots, zingers and vague talking points sell. Facts be damned, if you repeat it enough it must be true.

PBS is more than 'arts'. Big Bird is educational for kids. Frontline, Nature and other documentaries are instructional.
Do you think our schools don't accept advertising?
You fault PBS for taxpayer funding, then blame it for accepting advertising to defray taxpayer cost.
We don't have go more into debt with China.

Obama's zinger retort should have been:

Mitt, you don't have to ask China to watch Big Bird, just pay a fair tax rate like the rest of us. Our debt is a result of 14% tax rates and investments in jobs for Cayman bankers.

As if they will go out of business if the government doesn't support them. If you love them so much, donate more money to them.

And for the record, Barry can't think that fast to come up with any zingers.

Again, let's examine the Clintons' Cayman investments. And SO many documents we would love to see that Barry has paid millions to keep closed. Do you really want to start the disclosure discussion? Because millions of folks want to know why his college transcripts and application records are sealed. Poser.

So what? He could have attended PVCC for all I care.

Facts are facts, Romney pays 14% tax rate and that is after his 'deductions' to his cult which plows all that money back into temples and zombie recruitment.

Romney said he will give tax breaks to everybody. I don't like taxes, so I will vote for him. Obama raised taxes on everybody. I won't vote for him.

Boys and girls, sometimes some grownups are mean and want to take things away from people. Sometimes they even want to kill people. Mr. Romney wants to kill me so some rich people can get something called tax cuts. I really dont want to be killed. I want to stay right here and help some of you boys and girls learn your letters and numbers so you will be ready for school. Then we can have fun and you will grow up able to read and count and be successful. Mr. Romeny just wants wealthy people like him to have all the money so he wants to kill me. I'm scared.

Doesn't Dick Cheeney get first shot at Big Bird? When he is done shooting his friends that is.
