Are Christians Doing Enough to Help the Poor?

Nov 28, 2012 Full story: TheBlaze.com 61

America is an overwhelmingly Christian nation. Regardless of statistics showing that there has been a decrease among those individuals who call themselves committed, church-going believers, the vast majority of the nation still subscribes to Christian theology.

You can pray at home. Take that money you are giving to a man to pay all his bills and give it to a "needy" family to help pay theirs. Ohh wait you got to show up on sunday to keep the status quo right i forgot. All they would do is tell them to pray and give them bibles anyways. Just like a "mission" trip. Just a waste of money.

I CAN SEE THEM HELPING PEOPLE WHO.ARE SICK AND ELDERLY. WHO CAN'T WORK AND PAY THERE BILLS THAT CAN'T GET ANY PUBLIC ASSISTANCE AS FOR JUST POOR PEOPLE THEY NEED TO.HELP THERESELVES. GET A JOB. THERE ARE TO MANY RESOURCES OUT THERE TO HELP POOR PEOPLE INSTEAD OF POOR PEOPLE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT FOOD STAMPS, FREE HEALTH INS, GAS MONEY, AND EVEN GETTING THERE UTILITY BILLS AND RENT PAID FOR. THEY NEED TO STOP BEING LAZY AND BUYINH NON NECESSITY THINGS SUCH aS BOOZE. DRUGS, CIG. OH I'M NOT SAYING ALL POOR PEOPLE DO THAT BUT JUST THE ONES WHO DO SHOULD STOP EXPECTING AND THINKING THAT CHURCHS AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE MONEY owe them anything.

Atleast the government is doing more for the poor that the church is and the church isnt even taxed (which is bullshit if u want my humble opinion). Yet, they always want to put god in the government and in our schools but dont want to pay taxes. Do you see where im coming from?? Its not hard to get that point!! No, the church would rather take their non taxed profit and buy more bibles to send to third world countries on these "mission" trips to help spread their "disease" to the poor instead of keepin that money here in this country to help feed the families in need right here in our own towns and communities. Now you tell me who is more "christ like", big brother(government) helping out his fellow americans or preacher man racking in on all of his non taxed riches that the community never sees?? I rest my case! Now dont get me wrong im all for working and supporting yourself. I do it everyday but i give my share in taxes.

It's sure NOT the government being Christ like. Give ( government ) a man a fish he can eat for a day, TEACH (not the government ) a man to fish he can eat for a lifetime.

Churches do very little to help the poor except for the complimentary thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. ask for help and you will be told you may pick up a box of discarded canned goods brought in by church members. Churches are also known to pitch in on funeral expenses here and there but thats about it. and theyve got it backwards. feeding people should be priority burying people not so much.

I think that TRUE Christians (those who are guided by the word of Christ, a liberal) do plenty to help the poor. It is the fake "Christians" (racists, right wing loons, those who are constantly quoting the bible to justify their bigotry, the "personal responsibility" crowd, the holier-than-thou hypocrites) who don't give a rat's arse about the poor.

y shuld the church feed the poor. Thoes people get plenty of foodstams to feed them selves. Most eat better then people who have a lil money. I dnt go to church don't care to. I know Wht I believe and don't have to go there for other people to tell me Wht I should believe. I think from experience the church does a great dead. I had a friend to got injured at work and couldn't work. The church's in town stepped up and payed utility bills, bought them food and gave them gas money to go back in forth to doctors. These people didn't even attend church. Yet the church helped them in there time of need. I also have several more stories about the church's helping people in need.

amen !

government itself states that government handouts, free services like rent/medical were paid to the 'poor' at a rate of $61,000.00 per family just in 2011. in real world math since no taxes are paid out this equates to about $75,000.00 annual pretax earnings for a 'working' person. How many of you earn $75k ? median low-middle income is stuck in the $50k range making the 'poor' living large on the gubbmint teat a good portion of upp-middle income for doing NOTHING.

till that changes, nothing will change, the entitlement coddling of the 'poor' makes them richer than the working schmoe paying for them.

Lol I'm sorry. That doesnt make your statement any better. Actually worse. If you are such a "christian" you sould be helping your poor ole neighbor out. Thats not very "christ" like for you to say that.

I watched a church build a new church. The cost I found out was 1.1 million. They had a church already but wanted a big fancy one. I wonder how many poor people they could have helpped instead of fancy mansion church.
