Nothing to check on, republicans were looking at a strong possibility of taking over the senate in 2012 but it did not happen and that is why. The anti choice, anti women comments made by GOP candidates hurt them bad.

Interesting comment because there is alot of spouting about MY second amendment/MY rights to own a gun/MY safety from the boogeman/tyrannical government/paranoia du jour who are coming after ME, ME, ME - you know that typical paranoia.
But what matters are those guns hurt/kill others - whether it is in a school, mall or a movie house. So it is about THEM, THEM, THEM.
That is what "matters", n'est-ce pas?

Okay, we don't trust the government, the People that We the People elected. LOL

So let's not let the government of We the People regulate guns, like they are part of some well-regulated militia. Let's let the militia regulate the militia, instead of the government.

Deem militias as regulators of gun owners: letter to the editor

Unfortunately, due to the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, gun-control mania is kicking into high gear. As it does, this might be the time to take another look at our Constitution.

We should, under the Constitution, explore the possibility of establishing a system whereby all guns would need to be registered with a state's official militia. Funded by a four-year renewable license fee, the state militias would not only maintain a registry, but, based on their needs, the militias would determine the types and number of guns an individual could own. Training requirements for gun ownership, including annual refresher sessions, would be determined and monitored by the militias connected to a national Department of Defense database that would be accessible to local police organizations. Enforcement of the rules and regulations would be tasked to the militia's military police assisted by local law enforcement agencies.

Even if the above has no merit, let us start the discussion with an open mind.

Your letter is a good starting point, Mr Wells, in this discussion over gun control and ownership. We cannot realistically confiscate all of the guns out there. But if gun owners, and many others, believe that government isn't the solution, then the gun owners can take some responsibility for a solution. How secure are their weapons? When not in use, are they disabled in some way? Maybe the firing pins are taken out and stored in a safe place. A study conducted in 1995 - unfortunately, because of NRA opposition, no recent study has been conducted - many of the guns in the possession of criminals were stolen from legitimate owners; if they had been disabled, then they would have been useless. If Mrs Lanza had done this with her weapons, perhaps Adam Lanza wouldn't have had the firepower to do what he did.

Inn Article 1, section 8, of the Constitution, Congress has the right to regulate "the Militia". Perhaps gun control legislation could focus, in part at least, on the safe and secure storage of guns in households. After the Constititution was approved in the early Republic, militia leaders would come to homes and inspect militia members weapons for serviceability. As per Mr Wells' letter, perhaps a police inspecter could randomly inspect gun owners' firearms to ensure their proper storage and safety, with a fine for those who fail to secure their weapons. As Mr Wells stated, its a start.

The Assault Weapons Ban is unconstitutional. Even an addled drunk like Harry Reid knows it won't go anywhere. But talking about it keeps you from preparing for the government created financial mess that is right around the corner This is government by crisis. There is never a solution offered, just one crisis after another. Step back, let the people you eleted deal, and start taking care of your future. Guns are the least of your worries.

Hey fool, it's not my 2nd amendment. It is our constitution, the law of the land. All this gimme-gimme welfare is not in the constitution and is BS. It is funny how you liberal progressives from Californicate think you know what is best for everyone else. I pity you poor pukes for you know not what you are.
