Never mentioned the poverty level. But good question, why would you object to having employers pay a minimum of $25/hr?

To be more worldly wise you have to experience things. Everyone has experiences and some of the personal ones may be painful. The same thing goes for education or educating yourself. And that can take many avenues also. I happened to read a book back in the 1970's that combined religion and economics. It kicked started me to purchase other books more on economics and how nations rise and fall. Even dealing with fiat currencies. In a way I am sorry I did because I would look at things differently like most people do in America and worry more about important things like which political oscar was going to win this year. Anyway these books along with the basic education I received detailed how people vote themselves goodies and how free nations become tyrannical. The United States is doing what was written. And the issues are coming quicker. As I moved around I threw the books out and do not remember the names anymore. But most of them were bought at book stores in economic and political sections. The only thing the information does not give is when events happen. Of course Saul Alinsky tactics has a field day on the most minute details or if someone writes something without a lawyer present to proof read it. It is not difficult to piece together bits of information from everything experienced in life and formulate results. So if the the economy crashed tomorrow, you will have a totalitarian government installed within a few days after. All of the laws and levels of government departments are in place. The abuses are all around and denial is the rule of the day. The same people who can tell you paragraphs about the agenda they follow for themselves and it may number thousands of pages can not tell you anything about the growing tyranny even as they are warned and experience it. There will be a time that I switch my views as most Americans seem not to care and we are not the only nation that has done that. The Bible is a book that if you took the religion out of it has economics and politics. it tells you what people do. And that has not changed. As a rule though, we do try to treat each other nicer in a general sense. But to many chit stirrers pollute the environment and hurt many things we can all embrace even if it affects one group for the good without hurting another groups or more.

To President Obama and those folks who can do the math, folks earning minimum wage on a full time job can't make it with their bills, rent, etc. Period.
Less than 2% of those who are earning minimum wage are full time, sole income of household workers. And if you have a family and are only earning minimum wage, guaranteed that they are eligible for a wide range of benefits, SNAP, cash assistance, Medicaid, housing, heating, etc.

The majority of MW earners are women, many who are receiving government aid and work part-time to supplement their benefits. In some cases, the combined earnings of gov't assistance and part-time income provides more for some of these households than workers who earn a little too much to qualify for benefits.

In spite of all the hand wringing and pettifogging surrounding this issue, MW workers aren't nearly as bad off as many seem to think.

Make moost of GOP voters work for minimum wage and live in poverty why working real hard an watch wages go up fast.
You have these leather chair oak desk sitters making millions doing little t no work and they think the workers are over paid.
AND YES SITTING BEHIND ESK AND GOING TO MEETINGS IS NOT WORK...What CEO and front office types do for "work" is what working class people do to relax.
Why don't we just construct work camps and gulags and send them all there, eh Comrade?

Or better yet, why don't we do more to get kids to finish high school...not get into drugs, not get into gangs and crime, not start families that they won't be able to support because they didn't finish high school, go to college for anywhere from two to twelve years, incur a mountain of debt to pay off when they finally finish school and get jobs that pay good wages?

Most people who are earning decent, good or great wages worked their asses off to get where they are, managed not to get sidetracked along the way and didn't put obstacles in front of themselves. Punishing them, GOP or otherwise, isn't going to make it any better for those at the lower end of the pay scale.$10.10 is still poverty wages, and this increase will be a job killer, putting 2 million MW workers out of work. That'll help.

And it already has in the progressive developed ghettos. Its permanent now. And it is spreading to other areas. If you are not disabled in any way, there are people who would beat you to an inch of your life. And many of them have concern for others or have helped others. Violence sucks. Until there is no choice. You and your progressive buddies are bringing this on. You need to work with people. You need to stop with the Fox and Limbaugh crap and pay attention to every piece of venom that spews everywhere else that is pushing the agenda you may love but is destroying all that was good with the bad also. That is why I type.

The more one makes per hour, the LESS they are able to GET from the government.

Maybe no one explained that to the minimum wage earner.

More money taken out in payroll taxes AND less bennies coming from the government.

Yes, something to think about.

By your reasoning workers should ask for a decrease in minimum wage. How about a cap of two dollars an hour? Then they can get a windfall of government "bennies".

I think you need to go back to the drawing board.

I don't suppose you have noticed, these lazy shiftless 4th generation welfare cons don't want a job. They don't want to finish school. They don't want responsibility for themselves. They just want enough money from the government for their booze, cigarettes, and drugs, and to be left alone. You live in a fantasy world. The good little people you fantasize about don't exist.

Lets raise the min wage the lib leftist progressives shout...lets have govt keep telling business people how to when to and how much..
The end result will be business's will fire a few people to lower the new costs and or raise the price of the products because they understand to keep a business going you need profits..
The people in our govt especially like Obama who have never worked a real job in their lives don't understand what they are doing to small business or large for that matter all that matters to them is get votes and give freebies to lazy people to keep those votes ...no matter what the cost to this nation...
Lets set min wage at 25 dollars an hr and then a Big Mac will cost us $35 dollars with fries...
Govt get out of my face ...
