It's a possibility, I suppose. I haven't heard one way or another, but I saw no indication that he was under anyone's care.

Oh? well then let's take a look at some real facts too. Hawaii has some of the toughest gun control laws in the Nation, wanna guess what is it's ranking in least amount of gun violence? wanna guess which is the #1 safest state in the nation from gun violence?.
By your logic of taking a singular example and comparing it to others, I win.
And that's why people are stabbing each other instead, stupid.

Violent, heinous gruesome crimes are on the rise in Hawaii....just a few days ago they found a beheaded body in a ravine on Oahu...missing persons are the norm on the Big Island, you've got a massive homeless problem with homeless Micronesians stabbing each other, a few years ago a 2 year old baby was thrown onto the freeway to its death by a meth addict....its not the paradise youre trying to portray...

So...no... ack.

<quoted text>There may also be a correlation between the absence of use of psychotropic drugs and homicidal violence.
In the present case, the shooter was almost certainly suffering from paranoid-schizophrenia. Treatment consists of proper use of psychotropic drugs.
Antipsychotic medication would be indicated to treat psychotic symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia or even those of a major mood disorder. They are not associated with increased rates of homicide or suicide.

Drugs associated with increased risk for homicide and suicide are those that disinhibit (tranquilizers and hypnotics, which are tranquilizers labeled differently), not antipsychotics.

Some antidepressants are under investigation for increasing risk for suicide, but it is not clear whether it’s the medication or just the depression that contributes to the risk. The same applies to pain medications since they are antidepressants labeled differently.

I often wonder if what we are witnessing with “El Rushbo” may be little more than a rather ordinary and predictable disinhibited Oxycontin-induced rant. A few weeks at Betty Ford might render him a bit more calm and grounded, or at least swing his mass back into low Earth orbit.

Aaron Alexis asked for help several times and should have been hospitalized when he was diagnosed psychotic. Why was he not hospitalized and kept in the hospital until his symptoms were effectively treated with antipsychotic medication? It happens all the time. In recent years, government funding has been cut for mental health programs and a whole host of other benefit and community support programs that are vital to people with chronic mental illnesses.

We get what we pay for. We don’t get what we choose not to pay for.

Put it this way if you take psycho meds, you should be closely monitored or better yet thrown in the looney bin, far away from society.

Oxycontin is considered a NSAID, stupid...a pain reliever...They're more concerned with the psychotropic drugs like Prozac, Paxil, etc...they think may have link and are causing people to go batshit bonkers and start shooting people.

Yes, Oxycontin is a strong, addictive pain reliever. It is not used to treat psychosis. It is disinhibiting and could be what adds the “Rush” to Limbaugh.

Please don’t embarrass yourself by calling other people stupid just because you've misunderstood their message.

Yes, Obama is directly responsible for this shooting because he failed to make gun ownership tougher.

That's not up to him. Bearing arms is a constitutional right....these people should have been allowed to protect themselves, they would be alive today.

Your need to call me stupid blinds you to the fact that I said Oxycontin is a pain reliever. Accordingly, I will no longer respond to your disingenuous rants.

Yes, congratulations! Your name has earned dishonorable mention on my “do not reply” list of people who either prefer or have only the capacity to post personal insults in lieu of attempting to engage in reasonable discussion. You may continue to respond to me, but I’ll not respond to you, no matter how strongly you may appeal for me to do so. You may find it just as rewarding, however, to settle on rating all my posts negatively, as has become the tradition of those who have been so disenfranchised. I welcome disagreement, but not personal insults.
