It was a huge waste of $$$ just so a bunch of boys could play with billion dollar rockets, two of which exploded in front of millions of people.
Save your rhetoric xxxl. I own a machine shop and know the benefits of metalurgical discoveries, insulation, and composites all engineered for the space program and made available to the public. No need to reply to me with your inane responses.

Interesting. So the discoveries made at NASA actually work here on earth?

Why did NASA need to spend billions to take materials they found on earth out in space for testing, only to come back and use them on earth, the place where the materials came from in the first place?

You just keep lapping up those excuses to needlessly spending billions of taxpayers dollars for 'space exploration'.

TRUTH IS.....President Obama tried to end Big Oil's taxbreaks and subsidies, and save us over $5 Billion dollars a year....Republican's in the House blocked that legislation.....turn's out NASA's total tab for the Space Shuttle program, is $4 Billion Dollars a year.....

Money well wasted. I'm glad their budget was slashed. Average Americans have been slashing their own budgets since 2008 so toughshit for them. Now if we could just figure out how to get rid of the entire House and Senate and start all over again. Wouldn't that be nice?

Only one rocket engine exploded. The other shuttle had A small hole in the insulation from debris during lift-off that allowed super heated air from the 22,000 mph re-entry speed into the shuttle and burned it up.
Both accidents were tragic. but no more tragic then the thousands of US soldiers killed in the middle-east so W could look like a man to his father.

NASA is modern science at work. Science is good. Even if some of that science suggests we could actually be changing our own environment for the worst.
Tea-baaggers do not like science. Too much thinking and reading.
Economics is also science. They do not understand that either.
the government shut down is stupid and bad for America.
The shut down is not Obama's fault. It is the result of uneducated children using predudice, and emotional fear to manipulate the American people with 24 hour a day unchallenged one sided commentary.
The TEA Party and their line up of fools is not helping anything.
All they are attempting to do is make sure Obama never has any success.
The only problem with that other then predudice, hate, and stupidity is like it or not if they refuse to let the duely elected president of the united states succeed there is not way America will succeed.
childish fools who whine and pout when they do not get their way are not the best thing to ever happen to America.
the TEA Party came into power with 1 objective...STOP the EVIL Obama. Stopping the president, whomever he may be will stop America.
But keep it up TEA party. Keep America lost and stupid if you don't get your impossible to achieve way.

NASA became the end result of everything wrong with America as it is/was used for all of our social diversity engineering/crony capitalism/corruption induced by self serving politicians/ and so much more. And they had to operate on limited budgets year after year with all of that in place. They knew the problems. And yet they continued selling to the public that access to space was like flying on a commercial jet. If they had the right stuff like they used to, those problems would have been dealt with behind the scenes finding the resources to do it while the program continued. The booster issue was known. Fixing it behind the scenes was common sense. The tile damage was known also. Experimental procedures were being tested to do repairs and you would think that they would have at least took a manned manuvering unit and some of that with them in case of the worse happening as there were warnings from many previous launches. A couple of thousand pounds for this would have at least gave them the opportunity to try something. That was the low point to me. But hey, turn on the NASA channel and you see where part of the resources go. Its time to lower the price for space access. Somehow even the new Orion capsule based on capsules from the 1960's and much better will probably end up costing an arm and leg when the whole configuration is finished.

The Teabaggers have one agenda; to take over the US government and turn it into a Fascist/Misogynist/Homophobic/ Class-based society. As for NASA, the majority of Americans employed by NASA in Houston and Kennedy Space Center are still employed. It's the Space Shuttle program that was shut down, not NASA. With two dead crews and two multi-million $ Space Shuttles destroyed, it was time to re-vamp the program anyway. Once again, President Obama makes the right decision and still gets lambasted for it. The teapublicans suck. D-bags.

Love the space program. As a child knew the names of every astronaut. For the money we have spent, maybe we should have traversed the solar system instead of circling the earth in a very impressive but overly expensive to use machine for 30 years. On top of it we built a 100 billion dollar white elephant space station because the shuttle had a cargo bay and we had to use it for something. But we did learn a lot about construction and living up there.

I loved the space program, too, until I witnessed the horror of not just one, but two of the Shuttles exploding in front of my eyes. Kind of takes the fun out of it, wouldn't you say?

Amazing that bigoted people like you still have to pick one race or ethnicity out of a situation and make some lame, whackadoo ASSumption based purely on what you believe to be an inferior group of people.

Yeah, the space shuttle blew up because there was a jew aboard.
You're a fricken genius. And here we thought it was because of a faulty heat shield.

Used to be you could count on that attitude coming from state's like, W.Virginia, Louisiana, Kentucky or Arizona......but it has now spread to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania....Alaska...lol.. ..

Be sure that when you call me or anyone an idiot you check the amount of grammatical errors in your post (I counted 12) or it's you who concedes to hold the idiot card, idiot.

Nice deflection but my point stands. You hate Jews. You're post was pretty clear, that is, unless you have a different meaning for "Israeli" than the rest of us.

You said the space shuttle exploded because there was an Israeli on board.

Since you say I don't understand what you meant, why don't you explain to me and others on topix exactly what you meant? If you SAY you aren't an anti-Semite, then explain your comment.
