GOP Rep. Bill Posey, whose Florida district includes Kennedy Space Center, asked members to let NASA do its job. Too often, the agency's attempts to act efficiently have been hampered by politics, he said.

Teabaggers defend that kind of waste.

So much for "conservatism".

Wally makes a good point, this is a federal agency, what could the Obama administration possibly do to stop this waste? Just another feeble attempt to blame Obama for something he has absolutely no control over.

Seems the district Representative could make political hay by demanding the govt stop sending un-needed taxpayer dollars to his district. That would put him on the fast-track to re-election, no doubt

The more thing change, the more they remain the same.

The Pentagon's Inspector General has discovered that the Department of Defense cannot account for a trillion dollar's worth of expenses. This is seen as much bigger than the controversy over the $640 toilet seats it used to purchase.

Things are so bad that the Army cannot account for 32 tanks, 36 Javelin missile command launch-units and 56 planes. Currently, the Pentagon is approaching an annual $400 billion budget despite such conditions.

And this is but one grain of sand in an ocean of all levels of government waste. So instead of using the money to explore and discover more of our extended neighborhood so to speak, NASA pisses away money money on nothing. Just yet another example of how the octopus' tentacles are draining us of money and liberties.

Not a fan of Romney but he would have taken a meat cleaver to the waste, fraud and abuse that is our federal government.

Teabaggers wish President Obama would let the Space shuttle program continue even though two of them exploded while millions watched in horror. Nevermind the billions of $ lost when they exploded. It's just taxpayer money. Who cares? Wasteful spending is only bad when a black man does it, right?

Only a teabagger would get off on supporting costly death shuttles.

Romney would have been rendered impotent by the democratically controlled Senate. With President Obama, it's the House.

We Americans are just too stupid to vote out the current do-nothing Congress so we are getting exactly what we deserve. Nothing.

I agree, that is why I wonder why Obama doesn't manage those things he can actually do something about. Obama appoints the agency heads, he gets who he wants, no congressional oversight. Evidently NASA leaders are doing exactly what Obama wants, or they would be gone. Obama is just trading government waste for political support and the tax payers pay the bill, on both ends.

They still have to get the money from congress, regardless of who he appoints.

The proposed 2013 federal budget unveiled by President Barack Obama today, keeps NASA funding relatively flat next year, but bites deep into the agency's robotic Mars mission coffers while shifting new funds to human exploration and space technology.

According to the White House's 2013 budget request, NASA would receive about $17.7 billion for next year —$59 million less than the space agency got for 2012.

April 25—the House Committee on Appropriations bill for FY13 increases NASA's budget for future Mars missions to $150 million, or $88 million above the request; Discovery and New Froniter programs (which could include a Mars mission) is given $480 million, which is $115.4 million above the request; planetary science research is increased by $3.5 million.

May 10—Regardless of the veto threat, the full House approved its version of NASA's FY13 budget.

The "conservative" teabagger congress trading government waste for political support?

$24 million? Chicken feed.

That amount of money won't even buy one jet fighter.

Paul Bremer, appointed by Bush as head of the
Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, used
to hand out that much in suitcases to anyone who
walked in the door and said he was a friend of George.
