Obama promised to Kill Coal and Kill jobs in KY.That is ONE promise even Obama will keep.

Middle Class KY Dem voters will gladly increase their own families Tax payments to the State by at least 30% to cover the loss in State Revenue.

All Hail THE Obama!!

Oh the great Obama, Polosi, Reed conspiracy to destroy Eastern Kentucky coal. I believe he did say that you could build a coal fired plant but if you did you would go broke. The UN Kyoto Protocol signed by the U.S. is coal killing accord and was meant to be. Then you add to the mix that everybody else mines coal cheaper and natural gas burns cleaner "meets the 2015 Clean Air Standard" and you get the perfect coal killing storm.

The thing is for hillbilly's, they are slow learners and slow to react. Still in denial, hanging on to their coal bucket even until the last hole in the ground mine shuts down. Instead of working on developing a non coal economy as we lose the coal economy they will get on a big hate Obama fest and play the blame game instead of working the problem.
Politicians will be real big into the blame Obama hate fest, Why? Because it is easier to just keep everybody fired up and blaming someone else for their problems than for them to actually work on getting a non coal economy in here. You won't be held accountable for a blame Obama campaign, it is a win win situation. You might be held accountable if you promise to work on non coal jobs and anon coal based economy and don't deliver.

Get your heads out of the coal pile, it is over this time, it will never get any better, will get steadily worse over the next 10 years. You waste a lot of time money and energy blaming Obama for killing the coal industry and doing nothing about it. Coal is a dying industry in Eastern Ky. it was good 100 year ride but it is over. There is nothing we can do to improve an industry that is on the way out. We have a 10 year window to start switching this area over to a non coal economy. We need to get 100% coal severance back and to start using it for what it was meant for. We need to get congress and Obama to fund some projects in here to help the economy they destroyed and we need to get our representatives to push for that.
You can't just destroy economic life blood of an area without declaring it a disaster area and help rebuild the economy you destroyed.
They give billions of dollars to foreign countries they have destroyed, they need to do the same for Eastern Ky. Our Representatives need to get this area declared and economic disaster area because of their EPA policies and get some funds in here to help with the transition from coal to a non coal based economy.

No democratic president cares about Kentucky, we don't have enough electro votes to matter, so they treat us like crap cause they get more gay and enviromentalist votes if pound down coal states. PLus they probably make more tax money if we pay higher electric bills.

But what the hell good does it do for us to keep harping about it. It is a lead pipe cinch that OBAMA and the EPA destroyed the Eastern Ky. Coal industry and will destroy the rest of the coal regions over the next 10 years. OK, we are in agreement on that so lets move on.
Now we need to make him and congress fix it, they broke it they should have to fix it.
You might say steel was destroyed by competition "subsidized by governments to dump it here lower than we could produce it". You might say the Automotive industry in Detroit was destroyed by competition "corporate lobbyist pushing for outsourcing every damn living wage automotive Mfg. job" plus the influx of Japanese and Korean cars.
Coal is unique in that coal was not destroyed by competition, coal was destroyed by the Federal Government, first by our government signing on to the U.N. Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon emissions, then by the E.P.A. raising air standards beyond what the burning of coal for power production can meet, now by actively trying to kill the export of coal to China and India also.
I'm not talking welfare or even direct job creation because not the Federal, State or local government is responsible for job creation but they are responsible for creating conditions for job creation and the economy to transition from coal which they killed to non coal jobs.
The Federal Government should declare the Eastern Ky. Coal Fields an Economic Disaster area because they are the ones that created this disaster and then congress should vote funds for projects to help the area transition from coal.
If Obama likes renewables let them convert every flood control dam we have to hydroelectric. If he likes solar let them fund Solar Powered Power Generation Projects across the coal fields on abandoned strip mine property. Let them fund displaced miner and worker training to work in these industries plus plant maintenance if we can attract any in here with cheaper power and lower taxes. They can help with the tax subsidy for new industry into Eastern Ky.
OK, so Obama killed the Coal Industry, he broke it, make him fix it. Our Gov. that carried water for his Obamacare needs to call in a favor. Our state senators need to get him to declare the place he broke an Economic Disaster Area and congress needs to pass legislation to fund projects in Eastern Ky. that will help us transition from a coal to a non coal economy.
The useless Pike County Politicians need to go, this did not just happen last week. Everybody knows this thing has been coming for years and they did nothing. No way should this same bunch of old tired Pike County Politicians should have anymore time or money to waste. Coal is gone and the good ole boy political hacks in Pike County can't bring it back and should not be trusted with the money to transition to non coal economy "if" we ever get any!

The 500 Billion that Obama gave just one solar panel company Sylndra would have converted every flood control dam we have in Eastern Ky. to Hydroelecric Power generating stations. It would have built several large Solar Generating stations across Eastern Ky. on the tops of abandoned Strip Job plateaus. It could have finished and built more interstate Highways into the region. It could have aid for the retraining of our workforce to be qualified for the non coal industry that cheap power and tax subsidy would create. It would have the immediate effect from the construction and new jobs created by the renewable projects construction. Millions of dollars pumped into the local economy just from the construction phase of the renewable energy projects. This would be Obama's shinning moment to prove the viability of his push for renewable energy sources as he helps an area's economy he destroyed to transition from coal that he destroyed to Hydro and Solar.
500 Billion wasted on a corporation that was set up just to skim off the money. Not one watt of solar electric power created and he can't spend just one hundred billion here to save an area he helped destroy? This is what we need to be telling the Gov., Mitch, Rogers, Rand Paul and everybody that has Obama's ear. He broke it, he needs to help fix it.

Hoover Dam was retrofitted with generators 5 times more efficient that produced 5 times the power of the original generators that were installed in the 1930's. They even have hydroelectric power systems for small streams now.
However these are Corps of Engineer Dams and they would have to do the study to see if it would be feasible to convert these dams to Hydroelectric and still keep their original purpose of flood control.

Solar Power will be years down the road, the sun don't shine at night or strong enough here October through April. We lose about 30% or more of our power through an inefficient power grid, it needs to be upgraded first.
It all goes to prove that Obama's renewables power sources are not yet obtainable and they should never have destroyed the coal industry until these energy sources were viable.

Well yes it is Nancy! Western Ky. Southern Illinois and out in the West, the Powder River area of Wyoming are doing well. They mine coal so much cheaper than we do and that is what is Killing Eastern Ky. Coal. However over the next 10 years they will follow Eastern Ky. Wyoming coal companies want ports build in Washington state and Oregon to export coal to China. The environmentalist are fighting that tooth and nail and will stop it. Obama will stop the export of U.S. coal before he leaves office.
Large coal leases of Western Coal are not being sold, no one will bid high enough.

East Ky. Coal will go first then the rest will follow. over 230 coal powered coal plants to close in the next 10 years in the U.S.
Western coal will be the last to go, it is low sulfur and nobody mines it cheaper. Every coal miner out west knows that their job is from year to year, here it is from week to week.

China and India and the rest of the 3rd world countries will double their use of coal by 2022. So what good does it do for the U.S. to stop using it's most abundant and cheap energy source. In the middle of the worst recession the country has had since the great depression Obama decides to cripple the economy even further and take us off the cheapest source of electrical power generation and for what reason?

A stupid, job killing, economy killing attack on coal that serves no real purpose other than destroy the country as it will not slow down carbon emissions into the air.

Energy Crisis

Richmond, KY

#100 Nov 5, 2013
As coal fired plants are shut down and no alternative energy source to replace them we will soon be into an area of impossible to afford electricity. They shut the plant down at Louisa and will raise rates 14% to buy the power we lost from off the grid. When faced with paying a large carbon tax to run or spend billions on scrubbers that probably won't meet the next round of clean air standards, the utilities will just shut the plants down as they did with the Louisa plant. The thing is as we keep shutting coal fired plants down and not replacing them with any of the renewables there comes a point where there is no more power to purchase on the grid. This will happen fast after Jan. 1, 2015. The attempt by the government to make coal so expensive to burn the renewable energy sources will be able to compete is just plain crazy as there are no renewables developed enough to replace coal right now.
It takes 20 years to build a nuclear plant when you consider both the approval and construction process.
The sun is not suitable for utility power generation. Homeowners may be able to go off the grid with solar/battery/inverter systems but the utilities can't use battery power at night. Even out in the sun belt the solar homes are solar during the day and the meter runs backwards and then the utility provides power at night. The utilities can't switch to solar and they can't afford for half their customers to go off the grid or use supplemental Solar Power. Even to generate power at night they have to have a power source to generate it with and to cover cost they will raise the rates on the power they sell you at night.
An impossible stupid situation where you shut down power plants fired by cheap coal before you are able to transition to the renewables. There are some areas of the country with wind power and a few with hydro but a lot of the country has neither.
The administrations plan is to make coal fired plants so expensive that the utilities will switch to the renewables on their own or pay a large carbon tax to the federal government. They will do as AEP did, neither just shut the damn thing down and purchase power from the grid until that is not possible and then they will just shut down and let the government figure it out. The banking system is not set up for lending money for iffy projects such as large solar power generation for utilities, or windmill farms. Neither is the bond market.
We will soon be in an energy crisis in this country that was self inflicted, caused by the federal government. We have seen several large rate increased from AEP in the last couple of years and another on of 14% when they shut down the coal fired plant at Louisa. No renewables to replace the coal fired plant or operate paying a large carbon tax, just shut the mother down. The power companies know that sooner or later the government will have to reconsider this suicide energy policy.
