Presidents often struggle in first debates

Oct 2, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: USA Today

When President Obama steps onto the debate stage Wednesday night in Denver, he'll seek to avoid what might be called "incumbents opening debate syndrome." Presidents seeking re-election have often struggled in their first debates: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush.

Fact Check:$716B Roney claims POTUS cut from the medicare budget is EXACTLY the same amount cut from Medicare in the Ryan budget, which Mitten supports. Difference is almost of all of Obama's cuts are not to Medicare beneficiaries, but to providers who are over-charging for services, and most goes back into Medicare trust to make it solvent, and Ryan cuts go to tax breaks for the wealthy.
Ryan wasn't on stage, and if you want to go down that road we will discuss Biden saying the middle class has been crushed the last four years......

Read it and the Ryan budget again. There is nothing anywhere in them that commits them to putting the money back into Medicare for solvency. That bogus claim is another tea party hoax. POTUS plan is an open book. You can look at it by line item... no secrets.

Mitt Romney made numerous bogus claims in the Oct. 3 debate about the $90 billion in grants, guaranteed loans and tax breaks for energy projects in the stimulus bill:
Romney falsely claimed “about half” of the clean-energy companies that received U.S.-backed loans “have gone out of business.” But 26 companies received loan guarantees under a loan program cited by Romney, and three of those have filed for bankruptcy. The three firms were approved for about 6 percent of the loan guarantees.
Romney incorrectly claimed the “$90 billion in breaks to the green energy world” was provided “in one year.” It was two.
He stated at one point that Obama put $90 billion “into solar and wind.” But only $21 billion went for renewable energy projects,“such as the installation of wind turbines and solar panels,” according to a White House document cited by the Romney campaign. The spending also included $18 billion for transit projects and $10 billion to upgrade the nation’s electrical grid.
He falsely claimed the $90 billion was equal to “about 50 years’ worth of what oil and gas receives” in tax breaks, which he estimated at $2.8 billion. By his own figures, it would have been 32 years’ worth. But it’s even less than that. The administration estimates that eliminating oil and gas tax preferences would raise about $3.9 billion a year (23 years’ worth). The industry itself says the administration would increase its taxes by $8.5 billion a year (10.5 years’ worth).
He falsely claimed Obama “put $90 billion into green jobs … that would have hired 2 million teachers.” But that $90 billion included loan guarantees, not just grant money, and the government can’t hire teachers with loan guarantees.

I have nothing against green energy and i'm sure in the future it will be utilized but right now here on planet Earth, coal, oil and gas is what powers the world and is going to probably most of our lives and our childrens lives.
The biggest problem standing in our way today is liberal pie-in-the-sky crazy enviromentalist, their bought off judges and the EPA that is killing our ability to compete in a world dominated by China's manufacturing power that is not afraid to use their coal or oil.

People with IQs reaching into three digits understand oil & gas & coal are finite resources and inherently dirty- some more than others- and know the answer is in renewable clean energies- wind, tide, and of course solar energy.

Don't you worry about a thing. Obama planned to look silly at that first debate so he could look twice as good at the second debate. Romney never laid a glove on him. He will look so tough at the next debate you won't recognize him. Not a chance!!

the next debate is supposed to be undecided voters in an audience asking questions. Candy Crowley is the moderator. Romney better be careful with this one. It is a possible situation for the progressives to make him look uncaring to the masses. Even if it is not true. He needs to make sure that he brings the stats on the the ones Obama did not care for.

In all fairness, Obama is not used to being challenged or ask the hard question. Did you see his death stare at the moderator........sheeesh. He even ask him to change the subject and the questions.........now you see why he don't meet with other world leaders.........out of his class.

You are correct. I don't get cable or satellite TV. Too expensive for what I get, considering we pay extra to watch more commercials.

I watched to debate with Brian Williams on good ole' fashioned free TV, and I didn't need Brian Williams, or anyone else, to tell me what the two candidates said, or in Obama's case, didn't say.

You lefties always accuse anyone who doesn't agree with you of being "plugged into" Fox NEWS. The reality is, there are still many folks who can simply think for themselves.

People who are truly "in the know" also know that the earth is a big place, with completely natural environmental processes in place, designed by the creator, which clean up the "messes" left by either man, or other natural processes.

Volcanic activity has still released exponentially more "pollutants" (many of which are FAR more noxious than any produced by the burning of oil, coal, or natural gas) into the atmosphere than human activity ever has...and yet, because man has learned how to clean up his own act, the air is cleaner today in areas congested with human activity (in nations that care, at least), than it was half a century ago. This, despite a huge increase in the use of oil, coal, and natural gas.

I have every confidence that eventually man will come up with a economical way to utilize so-called "alternative" energy sources, and incorporate such sources into everyday life to a greater degree. In the meantime, however, it is ridiculously stupid to inject unnatural and entirely man-made economic stresses into our lives which threaten to bring down our great nation...

....unless that is the plan.

In all fairness to Romney, he has not yet responded directly to any questions asked of him.

He wants to increase the deficit by $5 trillion dollars but will cover it with closing some loopholes that he won't mention now.

But- again, to be fair- we don't need to ask him which tax loopholes because if he would close all the tax loopholes, they would still not cover the five trillion dollar hole he plans to create.
