All authority on point supports the constitutionality of the national motto and its use on currency and government displays.
In its Establishment Clause jurisprudence, the Supreme Court has suggested on numerous occasions that the national motto poses no Establishment Clause problems. In Engel v. Vitale, striking down school prayer, the Court implied that display of the national motto in public school would not violate the Establishment Clause, stating that “[s]uch patriotic or ceremonial occasions bear no true resemblance to … religious exercise ….” 370 U.S. 421, 435 n.21 (1962). In Lynch v. Donnelly, Justice O'Connor observed that government acknowledgments of religion, such as the "declaration of thanksgiving as a public holiday, printing 'In God We Trust' on coins, and opening court sessions with 'God Save the United States and this honorable court'" could not be reasonably perceived as a government endorsement of religion. 465 U.S. 668, 693 (1984)(O'Connor, J., concurring)(emphasis added); see also County of Allegheny v. ACLU, 492 U.S. 573, 603-04 (1989)(Justice O'Connor again expressed belief that national motto posed no Establishment Clause problems).

That's just Stupid When you say God Bless America, In God We Trust etc these are Christian mottos... What else is a person supposed to think when they walk into a building with In God We trust? They think Hmm christian saying on a building this place must believe in and practice Christianity otherwise why would it be there ?!

It is establishing a religion and no matter how you justify it or define it it's still a religions saying.

and it's got no place in politics or government

Officially, "In God We Trust", is a deistic statement, not favoring any religion.

In court the religious right has had to defend it as deistic, coming from a cold, uncaring god. They had to de-christianize the slogan to get it passed. So when somebody brings up the motto, just remember that even the conservative Supreme Court ruled that the god mentioned is not the christian, jewish, or moslem god.

As long as it is not a god of some cult, it doesn't violate the Establishment Clause (so says the honorable Supreme Court). So just make sure you correct people when they do make a connection. This god is the god of Voltare's - just a "clock-maker".

So it could just as easily mean, "In Thor We Trust"?

I like that better, but still think it's divisive, exclusionary & wrong because atheists have to pay to have this added and have it on documents they receive from the city.

God is real huh? How do you know this Ralph? There is no evidence, no proof of God, Ralph. If there was evidence or proof, we wouldn't be having this conversation. God is not even accepted as real in the US by a large number of people, much less world wide.

God is an invention of human beings who have a desire for the ultimate authority so that they will not have to think and decide for themselves how they should live.

We are humans capable of being ethical and moral without religion or a god. Humanism does not assume that humans are either inherently evil or innately good, nor does it present humans as being superior to nature. Rather, the humanist life stance emphasizes the unique responsibility facing humanity and the ethical consequences of human decisions.

Fundamental to the concept of secular humanism is the strongly held viewpoint that ideology—be it religious or political—must be thoroughly examined by each individual and not simply accepted or rejected on faith.

Along with this, an essential part of secular humanism is a continually adapting search for truth, primarily through science and philosophy. Many Humanists derive their moral codes from a philosophy of utilitarianism, ethical naturalism or evolutionary ethics, and some advocate a science of morality.

As soon as we discover how to prove a negative, that something does not exist. Until then we cannot prove that something is not, we only know that we haven't found it yet.

Actually, George, there is plenty of evidence that proves His existence. Naturally, those who do no want to believe in Him work very hard to disprove this. There are many books and articles by and about scientists who have discovered that only God could have created the universe and everything in it. This includes you, George. He love you and is just waiting for you to ask Him into your life. You will discover Him too, one day. I just pray that it happens before it is too late.

You are still sitting at home typing so we know for certain that no natural gas is present. We also know that the flag outside is not stirring, so we know for certain there is no wind. We can also tell by it's absents that there is no humidity in the air. I can clearly see that no one has hit my truck or slashed my throat. I can also clearly see that no one has secretly injected brain matter into your skull.
----------
And as long as someone is preaching the gospel about the visiting of God to earth as a Man named Jesus the Messiah, then we know there is a God. The same with the hundreds of people finding themselves incapable of saying Jesus was not God, which would have saved them from death. If you would simply read the gospels in the bible, then choose. Jesus made it very simple. Either there is a God and He presented Himself as a healer and resurrector of dead people called Jesus or Jesus was a mad man. He left us no middle ground. He simplified it for people like you and I. We now no longer have to guess if a God exists. How thankful I am. Thank you Jesus.
