Traffic Stop Highlights Arizona Law [Obama's Immigration Detains Woman for 3 days]

Full story: Free Republic

A week after Supreme Court arguments over Arizona's illegal-immigration law, the arrest, detention and subsequent release of an undocumented woman following a traffic stop added a real-world example to the courtroom debate about how the statute could play out.

Hell, why would anyone go anywhere without ID? I jog and wouldn't dream of doing so without SOME ID? if I got hit by a drunk illegal I'd want my family to be notified and ID as to my residence will help authorities notify them.

" pulled over Tuesday for making an illegal turn, and sent to immigration authorities when she couldn't produce a driver's license or Social Security card requested by a sheriff's deputy"

If you or I were pulled over for the same offense, could we scream "Racial Profiling"?

Araceli Mercado Sanchez, who is married to an American soldier and is in the process of legalizing her U.S. residency.

It's Arizona. Racial profiling is rampant in that nazi storm trooping State. If that nazi State was not so under the radar for their radicalism I'd not consider it racial profiling.

From The Wall Street Journal:

"Mrs. Sanchez, a resident of Bullhead City, was brought to the U.S. illegally from Mexico at the age of four, according to her and her family's attorney. She grew up in Arizona and married Guillermo Garcia, a U.S. citizen, four years ago.~ Richard Green, the family's attorney, said he filed an application in March based on her marriage to a soldier but hasn't heard back."

Filing an application is hardly in the "process of legalizing her residency."

Technically, she is eligible for deportation and a 10 year wait before she can file for legal entry.

Filing an application is allot more than what 60% of illegal immigrants do. IMO when this case hits the immigration courts, it can get dropped due to the fact that she did file an application but like you said, it can go the other way and she can get the boot and a ban.

Rico, you have more intelligence then that. She made an illegal turn and was stopped. She could not present a drivers licence or Social Security card. Where is the racial profiling in that?
Do we consider it racial profiling every time someone with an Hispanic name is stopped no matter what the real reason for their being stopped?
Had she not made an illegal turn, would she have been stopped? I hardly think so because the law states there must be reasonable cause to stop someone.
Had she presented a drivers licence, would she have been arrested? I highly doubt it.
Should the law officer have just ignored the illegal turn? Should he have just ignored her not having a drivers licence or SS card? Shouldn't she have had some form of identification or something showing that she was applying for legalization?
Be honest Rico, do you really think this was a bonafide case of racial profiling or is it just the fact that she was Hispanic that racial profiling is being invoked?

Very true, why should she be given any special consideration?......has to wait the 10 year wait like anyone else. They always think that BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN HERE SINCE TODDLERS and WERE BROUGHT HERE, they're cases are special because they didn't knowlingly illegally crossed the river breaking immigration laws. Well their parents broke the law and the kids ARE NOT OWED ANY SPECIAL TREATMENT & THEIR PAPER WORK ISN'T GOING TO BE EXPEDITED.

Look, I once had a cop pull me over claiming that I did not use a hand signal while making a right turn at the intersection. This happened when I was a teen but what the cop really wanted to know was what was in my back pack becuase that was the first thing he grabbed and opened once he got out of his car.

So I know on a first hand basis that cops will and can lie if they want to pull a person over for whatever reason they feel like.

So the cop racially profiled the woman as an illegal lied about an illegal turn and hit the jack pot.

Illegal turn, I'm not buying it.

But hey... that's the risk of not having your papers in order.

You don't have to buy it, people make illegal turns everyday and according to the article she was stopped for an illegal turn. The arrest was because once she was stopped, she had no licence or SS card.
I believe that LEO's are probably going to be extremely careful to have a legitimate reason for stopping someone because they could face job loss and law suits if they are caught profiling under the law.
I made a left turn where a sign said no left turn years ago (52 years ago to be exact, I had only had my licence about a week. But, I did have a licence and as I told the police officer, I could not see the sign because it hung just above the traffic light and was partially obstructed by the Christmas lights.
He asked me what I thought they should do about that and I told him that they should hang the Christmas lights higher the next year. He told me to go on and be careful.
I was a just turned 16 year old girl out at night with two boys in the car (the boys were my brothers) and in that day and time, that would have been a prime example of "profiling". Had I not had a licence I would have been detained and my parents called.

By the way Rico, I'm not saying that racial profiling cannot, does not or will not happen but I believe it is being used as an excuse in many cases where it is not a legitimate claim.
Suppose every person who is not Hispanic and is stopped for making an illegal turn starts crying racial profiling? The ploy wouldn't work for them would it? Do you think LEO does not stop White, Black or Asian people when they make an illegal turn? Do you think they would not take them to jail if they had no licence, SS card or other form of ID?
The Social Security card plainly states that it is not to be used for identification but in some cases it is still accepted as ID. Not having one or a green card is usually and indication that the person is not here legally.
Every person who is in this country legally or is a citizen should have some form of identification.

And this thinking is a example of the lawless culture of Mexico. Where they do not enforce any laws, so they have people cutting off heads.

If Nazi storm trooping is arresting illegal aliens, i'am all for it.

Daily Horoscope for June 18

Taurus

No matter what else you're supposed to be doing today, it's a good idea to devote a little time to making sure your finances are running smoothly. You might even want to pay some bills now, rather than wait a couple of days until they're due, simply so you can make sure that you don't forget them. There should be some good news about a pay rise or perk, too.
