He hasn't been convicted of anything just charged. As the first post says innocent until proven guilty.

You must be new. Welcome to Ouachita County. To answer your question, I'd like to offer my opinion. People who vote for local politicians somehow feel that if that same said politician were guilty, then it somehow reflects on them as a voter. i.e. "He must be innocent because I wouldn't vote for a criminal!" It's the same thought process that's displayed elsewhere in this thread (and other similar threads) that corruption must be hidden and not dealt with because it would be "bad for the city/county and its people". If it could be summed up in a word... Pride. But we can't use that word... it's one of the seven deadly sins, y'know.

I wonder who his cellmate is? lol

I'm sure glad I am above the law. I killed 4 people, robbed 7 banks, flipped off 12 cops, told the feds blow me first and I'm still here!

He is innocent until PROVEN guilty. That's all up to the judge on what the court will allow as evidence. You can have all the evidence you need to prove him guilty but will it be allowed in court. This is where the law really sucks if the phone taps and other things aren't allowed he walks a free man

No it changed dimwit. It's guilty till PROVEN innocent. Did you not know not only cops are all corrupt but so are Courts? Empty jails don't make money, but full ones do!

Lost Cause is right. According to the law, one is innocent until they are proven to be guilty. Of course being found innocent doesn't necessarily mean the person didn't commit a crime... It just means that it couldn't be proven.

Not all cops, courts, judges, etc. are corrupt. I believe the majority (just like average citizens) are law-abiding and good people. But there are many who are corrupt and self-serving. It's easier for someone in a position of power to succumb to corruption and, because of their position of influence, it seems more heinous to the general public.

If Hesterly is found guilty, many will just claim that he was framed. If he's found innocent, many will just claim the system is corrupt. Either way, people are going to talk about it. And either way, those in positions of influence and power will start being a little more careful when it comes to the "proven" guilty part of their actions.
