Village pales at ponderous price tag for repairs
If Ruidoso village councilors look a little paler today, blame the blanch on consultants delivering the news that they're looking at about $68.2 million in projects connected to water, sewer and bridge replacements.

What a waste of time and breath to talk about all these improvements and who is going to pay for them. Remember the 9 bridges that need to be replaced after the flood of 2008???? FEMA was going to take care of 3/4 of that$$$$ too? How many bridges have we replaced in 4 years????? Just one=the horrendous Eagle Drive bridge. But maybe, VOR did get some FEMA money and used it in the general fund?????
Does anyone really believe that after "SANDY" FEMA has ANY money left for some poorly run village in NM?
10 years from now we are still going to be talking about leaky water and sewer pipes in the river UNLESS VOR gets sued(as in wastewater treatment plant debacle) and is threatened and required to repair. In the meantime, our utility bills will keep increasing to cover the cost of the leaks and lost water.
So... all you rubber lipped attorneys and councilmen keep flapping your jaws and telling yourselves you have solved the problem while we citizens watch the water running down the streets ...oh yes, who pays for those water leaks? If a citizen has a water leak and runs thousands of gallons before the leak is caught-he pays a big big bill. Maybe the managers, mayor, council should have some financial responsibility here? Doesn't seem that they are managing OUR water very well? Wonder how they would like being personally financially responsible for the big leaks running in the streets? Malfeasance.

Great post. You hit on all the marks. Where did the money go that was supposed to be for the replacement of our archaic rusting water pipes? At one time, did I not hear that the hurricane damage necessitated using that money for repairs to pipes in the Upper Canyon and that once reimbursed by FEMA, that project would proceed? I suggest that naught has been done regarding our water pipes. What of the Sewage Treatment plant, the drama, the extra monies, etc.? Could not and should not our Mayor and/or Village Manager tell us the facts regarding those issues? Bumbling, unqualified officials are running this place and the sad thing is that the citizens suffer and end up holding the bag for the financial consequences while others line their pockets with gold.
