Gay marriage before Supreme Court? Cases weighed

Nov 30, 2012 Full story: Northern Michigan News 32

Three weeks after voters backed same-sex marriage in three states and defeated a ban in a fourth, the justices are meeting Friday to decide whether they should deal sooner rather than later with the claim that the Constitution gives people the right to marry regardless of sexual orientation.

It pains me say this but since the Constitution does not say anything about marriage it's up to the states if they want to allow the abomination that is gay "marriage". However gays that are "married" should not be given any benefits.
Just as heteros that are "married" should not be given any benefits. As long as all "married" couples are treated equally.

There's a good article by a constitutional scholar who believes the SCOTUS is simply ducking all these marriage cases.

I have to agree. I think they just don't want to deal with the issue right now because there are prolems with all the DOMA cases.

I remember a day when the Supreme Court used to interpret the Constitution, and not take into account the social acceptance of its' rulings. They aided the Congress and President in LEADING his nation. It now appears they don't have the backbone to do the right thing, but look to the polls for society to lead THEM. It may not be true, but it appears that way to me.

Well the SCOTUS scheduled the Prop 8 & DOMA cases for yet another conference this Friday. I doubt this one will be any different than the other 2 conferences, but we can always hope.

The republicans lost the presidency because of the TALABAN-GELICALS. Their anti gay anti women agenda that has hijacked their party is alienating them from the mainstream. They even supported that nasty senator candidate from Misouri and the other nutcase from Indiana both of which lost.
And the candidate here in Missouri lost BIG. Todd Akin should have dropped out, when his party told him too. They pulled all funds for his election and he kept going......down! Oh well.

How can a national party the expects to win back the senate and presidency support NEANDRATHALS like that? They should follow the lead of the Episcopalean, they seem to be more in the 21t. century.

This whole fake fight is ridiculous.
At the Republican convention this year, the platform affirms the rights of states and the federal government NOT to recognize same-sex marriage. It backed a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

People are waking up. The constitution never defined marriage. There were no laws against gay marriage until the southern rattle snake handlers thought they could force their bullshit on the rest of the country.

Gay marriage is wrong and you all know it. Stop bending the bible around your lives to try and make yourselves feel better. If God wanted men to lay with men then some men would have ovaries and could reproduce. Sex is for reproduction but society has let it evolve into do it with who ever whenever it feels good. All I'm saying is that this Gay marriage or civil unions should be the last thing we need to worry about right now. People out of work, losing homes, no jobs in rural america.
God want the humans voluntary to follow Him.

Not want to follow His orders because the State force them.

There are many children out there in foster care that desperately need families. Or children who are abused, neglected, and forgotten by their biologically "correct" parents. Allowing gay marriages opens to the doors to a new family unit that not only benefits society today, but has the potential to effect the future generations.
