A pair of key Senate Republicans urged President Obama on Sunday to pick someone from the judicial mainstream to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and downplayed -- but did not rule out -- a filibuster to block a nominee they opposed.

There's absolutely no reason he SHOULD pick a "moderate". Shrub certainly didn't pick any "moderates", so why should Obama have to? I hope he picks the most liberal lesbian he can find, just to give that fat-bastard Scalia a heart attack.....

Selection of a middle of the road moderate, such as Secretary Clinton, is assurred.

and i wouldn't be a bit surprised if that is the criteria obama uses...

I just hope he doesn't pick a right winger. Too many of his appointments have been to placate the republicans and I am afraid he will try it again. The USSC is so right wing they have no credibility and another right winger will just confirm that Obama is way too right wing.

above I agree 100% Too much is done to pander to the right wing nuts .. they want us back in the 1940's it seems. And the GOP needs to bring something positive to the table, not this pouting, whining and fear mongering and just saying, "NO" ... They hold the USA hostage for their own little pitty party tantrum session

Ha-ha .. no matter how qualified or right wing on her decisions, can you imagine the appointment of a black lesbian atheist? Though none of that should matter, about 1/2 the USA populace would stroke out... we are such a land of prejudice, and tite-assed victorian old fashioned mental cages

These Leftist opinions are absurd. Left leaning Presidents have NEVER appointed anyone to the Supreme Court, who reflected moderate, or conservative views. However, the unending generosity from conservative Presidents has indeed appointed Liberal, or Left leaning Justices. This is one of many points concerning the lying nature of Leftists that show without doubt their lunacy.

This is from 'Mr Bill' so it's slanted, biased and can't be used as a balanced article.

'Mr Bill' is an obfuscator.

Wrong again. The "conservative" Presidents appointed what they THOUGHT were right-wing conservative justices; it just turns out those justices came to their senses quickly. Presidents Ford & Eisenhower are both on record as saying if they knew their nominee (Stevens & Warren respectively) would turn out so liberal, they would never have nominated them in the first place.

Of course, they will fillabuster. They don't even know who the Pres. is going to nominate and they are talking about it. They didn't get their way with healthcare, so now they think they can bully their way through this. What a bunch of punks.

Then he'd have to appoint Scalia's replacement. What a tragedy that would be...

Or maybe he'll get a do over on Thurgood Marshall's replacement. Black Americans would rejoice if that was finally done right.

It's a sport. Stomp feet, cross arms over chest and pout. That's what they do best. Oh, and trying to bully the President into doing their bidding.

The tea party are republicans in sheep clothing. Fox news is playing it off like it is a new movement with disappointed democrats and independents. They may have some but I bet it very few, and fox news is playing a propaganda game.
