Of course Islam is political. It is a marriage between political, economical, legal, and religion.
So sad that the marriage produced a mongoloid brain dead idiot child.

Quite an interesting article. A real catch 22 for Islam and it's supporters in the US.

A political entity is not a religion in legal terms.

This will obviously go to a higher court

Pretty disappointed with the Detroit "Gov't entity" for using this "clever" argument in attempt to block "Leaving Islam" ad. They are not arguing against Islam as the thread title appears to say, but instead resorting to classifying the it as "political" so that the "Leaving Islam" ad could also be labeled "political" - to create a legal reason to block the Ad.

(as a test for the Gov't entity's policy, would they also go as far as claiming an "I Love Freedom" or "Love My America" ads "Political" and must be blocked the same way?)

from the article:

"What began as a clear first amendment issue has exploded into a landmark case regarding the the status of Islam as a political entity. Today the Detroit Transit Authority (SMART), a government entity, argued before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals that our "Leaving Islam" ad was political because Islam is political. At least two of the three judges seemed to go along.

If the Court rules against us, it will be ruling that Islam is political and that Sharia is a political program -- something that other government agencies have strenuously denied. If that happens, will Islam and Sharia deserve the protection of a religion?"

Robert Muise and David Yerushalmi are lawyers who work on lawsuits defending American values against muslim groups:

from Atlas Shrugs:

"... When Marbley then asked him how our ad was different from one that SMART accepted from an atheist group, calling on people to become atheists, Hildebrand said that it differed because Islam is not only religious, but also a 'political series of laws.' Marbley then pointed out that the same thing could be said about the Catholic Church, since the Vatican was a political entity, and that could be used to rule out advertising from Catholic groups. Hildebrand then argued that our ad was both religious and political, and that the reference to a fatwa made it primarily political and not religious -- which would only be true if Sharia itself is primarily political and not religious."

In many Islamic states, shar'ia is forcefully applied by the gov't to both muslims and non-muslims, which makes shar'ia "primarily political and not religious."

If the government wins then Islam is a political entity, and muslims will lose all their religious protection under the law.

This is not over yet

In the West, Islam has been discredited and exposed as a fraudulent, misogynistic, hateful and destructive ideology. It does not deserve legal status as a religion.

If one acknowledges that there is a God
and no one worthy of worship except Him, then that is the highest form of politics that you can utter from ur mouth, Man made laws can be changed but devine laws are too hard for politics, so following the bible or the quran become personal choice

Muslims claim Islam is both religious and political.

In the West church and state are separate. So it has to be one or the other.
