Hello Ken griffiths, I to had nerves dissected in feb 08. Dr Amid had to remove parts of the inguinal, illioinguinal & genital nerve since they were intangled in my mesh.I have done real well since that surgery. From the looks of it on here way better than most. I do still have some pain now & then but, nothing like I went thru for the 2 yrs prior. I really do agree with you about not cutting the nerves. If anything can be done without cutting them I agree to not have that done.. I had PHS Mesh & it was my worst nightmare...Be well.. Linda

hello James, thank you for stating what you know about the sholdice clinic. I heard they no longer do hernia repairs using mesh. When i visited them, the doctor who saw me was frank & honest. He said my problems with horrific pain are from having mesh put into my left groin 5 times [ he said this is a foreign body which my body cannot get used to] he said also that to remove the mesh would most likely kill me because of hemmoraging. As much as i suffer like a dog [ disabled w/pain, sleep problems, meds dependency] i cannot walk or exercise much without further pain aggravation. on top of this in 1990 the surgeon dissected my femoeral, & illoinguinal nerves. wow what a mistake!! he might as well put 2 wisdom teeth in there & told me to live with it permanently! I strongly advise to anybody out there: no nerve surgeries, & if you can live with your hernia---just live with it. because your alternative just is NOT worth it! i definitely feel that the marlex mesh is defective & however i dont know who to talk to about a lawsuit. anyone know for canadians?

Have you tried an ultrasound, this is how they found my hernia

I am curious if anyone has had a hard time getting a hernia diagnosed? I have had one hernia repair (spigelian) and I have another hernia but it isn't showing up on CT scans. I can't get anyone to help me (doctors) because I can't get the thing to bulge out when I need it to (during the CT). Has anyone else had any difficulty with this? Is there some other method of diagnosing a hernia besides a CT scan?

I also sufferred chronic groin pain after keyhole surgery on my left inguinal henia. They used mesh and staples and damaged the ilioinguinal nerve 3 and a half years ago.It took me a long time to find a specialist that would listen/understand my problem and I had a Triple Neurectomy done three weeks ago with considerable improvement to tingling/burning in left leg, less aching in left buttock, reduced pain in left testicle, less tightness across abdomen and not relying on medications at the moment. I hope people read this and find someone to help with this horrible position we have been left in.

A relative of my brothers wife had a inguinal mesh repair. It gave her nothing but problems. She got it out!!! They did a "stitch" repair and no more pain!!

Sorry don't know the surgeon.

I have been seeking a Hernia Specialist in either the Los Angeles or San Diego areas -- to no avail. The referral given to me from my doctor did not measure up after I did "due dilligence". My ventral hernia is getting larger each day, and I have been completely unsuccessful in finding a specialist with above par credentials. It seems that medical professionals really don't take this procedure seriously -- although if it is not performed correctly, the results could be chronic pain. Please... Please... Please... Won't somebody help me...

Thank you so very much!

hi Linda, I never heard of that before, nerves tangled in mesh. are you able to sleep, cope w/o meds for pain? if thats true, then thats good, but i found that since my nerves were dissected [ illoinguinal & femoral] over the years pain has gotten right out of control. this was since 1994, I noticed 5 years later til now the pain is worse than ever. hope this is not your case.

Ken so far I haven't had any problems. On feb 6th it will be 1 year since this was done. I have been able to do alot more in this last year which I am so thankfull for. This last sat I just ran a 1/2 marathon. For me that was truley amazing. As for meds I have fought that urge to take anything since the beginning 3 yrs ago. I only take presc motrin if needed. I do hope that in the future I don;t have any probs from this but, I guess only time will tell.I do know that from day 1 of the second surgery I was almost pain free which really amazed me since the pain was off the charts after the 1st surgery.. Best of luck to everyone out there. May there someday be an end to all this. Linda P.S. Ken give me your email address & I will send you a pic of the nerve.

right on Howie, I think naming good surgeons it best, the board should keep a list of good surgeon, Dr. Towfigh at Cedar Sinai is very good.
I think if people knew where to go in their area they wouldn't have to travel far

Howie, is is GDSM?

Since my surgery in 2003 I have been in pain after the doc installed the Malex mesh patch as a repair for my inguinal hernia. The appropriate branch of the ilioinguinal nerve was "sacrificed", but it still acts up from time to time, I guess. Since 2005 I have had a pain doc block the appropriate branch of the nerve. This seems to work well for a few months, but now I will be returning for another zap for the 4th time. Does anyone out there have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Mad Jack

PREGNANT WITH ALLODERM PATCH:

I had a mesh implant 9/2004 after I gave birth by caesarean in 4/04. It was an Umbilical Hernia. I had intense pain where I could not walk, and it felt like the staples were ripping me apart. After speaking to muliple surgeons out side of the doctor who did it, I found I had to use him again as no one would "work behind him". The area around my belly button turned dark purple and red, and 1/3 of it became devoid of all fat, making me look like a partially eaten bagel. The original surgery was done through my belly button, as he felt it was a tiny tear. It was actually the size of a dime (which is now a quarter), and he went back the 2nd time in 7/05 with a Laparoscopy (the better way) removed the mesh, and inserted Alloderm. My stomach is now normal color, though still depressed, and he moved my belly button up 2 inches which looks strange to me.

I am 38 now, and pregnant again, and wondering what will happen with the Alloderm patch and my pregnancy. Will it rip? Has anyone gone through this? I cannot seem to get a definitive answer from my OB.

Hey Elsie, you poor thing I'm sorry that you are still hurting. Did you have the Kugel mesh? That is what I found out I have, so I am going to have mine completely removed-hopefully the pain will leave with the mesh. The doctor mentioned that he is planning to cut the 3 nerves around the mesh during the surgery, this is to keep from having future pain caused by these nerves. Has anyone had this done? I'm a little nervous about the whole surgery but ready to get this Kugel mesh out of me. The doctor will replace the hole the mesh leaves with 1 of 3 products---INTERCEED, SEPRAFILM, or the one that sounds the best to me ALLODERM/ALLOMAX. I was glad to hear that he didn't want to put more mesh inside of me, I'm only 28 and I haven't had children yet, and this mesh is pulling on my right ovary and right side of my uterus so I need to have the mesh removed to have a normal pregnancy. So this surgery is very important to my husband and I. I pray it all goes well. Is anyone in the Atlanta area? If so, do they know of a good surgeon that does a lot of these Kugel removal surgeries, and what about a good lawyer?? Thanks so much. [email protected]

Does anyone know a worker's comp attorney who is not afraid to take a tough case and lives in Santa Ana, CA. My husband and I have gone to Dr. Parviz Amid in LA (WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE WORKER"S COMP CHEAPSKATE INSURANCE COMPANY) and we now know the real problem ... Sorry for any anger that may seem to be in my words but it is frustrating when it seems no one can help, even the state court. We went to a specialist for hernia surgery and now know that my husband needs surgery however the insurance company does not want to pay. This is a matter of life and death because it is getting frustrating .... he has a worker's Comp hearing set for Monday Feb. 23, 2009 Please let us know ...
