ALS,
My Kugel was put in in June 2009. I have filed a complaint with the FDA.
Is there a site that lists lot numbers that show when the patch was made? I have a small oval and it has caused me nothing but trouble since installed. A surgeon at the Mayo in Jax said the Kugel was junk and wants to take mine out. At this time I can't be operated on due to being in a cancer trial. I would have to come off chemo for the operation. The surgeon and my onco decided the cancer was the greatest threat and the patch remains for now. At least I get pain meds for the patch so it is bearable. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place lol.
I keep wondering why the hernia surgeon put in a Kugle when so many had been recalled. Was he negligent?

I was also implanted with a small Kugel after Prolene mesh was removed.( along with a good chunk of abdominal muscle and a right testicle.)I am in pain 24/7 and can "feel" the kugel as a hard section of my gut. I trusted and still trust the Dr. who did the surgery. Because of the damage done by the Prolene the Kugel was the one way to repair the hole. Unfortuntely I believe that the problem for the most part is the mesh itself and the bodies defenses against it. I am under the impression that there is not a surgery possible because of 1. Staples left behind after the Prolene removal that are now clustered around my femoral vien. 2. Because of the damage done that going back in will cause more problems than solve them. 3. By going back in there is immediate recognition that Mesh is the problem. I am now in the care of the V.A. and THEY DO NOT want there to be a Mesh problem. Mesh is too widely used by the V.A..

Hi Steve

I think you should contact a Dr. Mark Brakstad at NW Hospital in Seattle. Although, he was the one who gave me a bad mesh repair with a heavyweight Marlex mesh in 2001 which took many years and repairs to fix, Dr. Brackstad did mention the Kugel patch. He said back in 2001 that there were people experiencing pain from it and that is why he stopped using it. Dr. Brackstad also messed up both sides. Fortunately, the surgeon Dr. Peter S. Billing fixed everything and everything is o.k now. But what a terrible time and expense I had to go through before I found Dr. Billing. To be truthful, I would not recommend any other surgeon at this time except Dr. Ramshaw.

I had surgery for a inguinal hernia with hydrocel a few years back and mesh was inserted into me. I now have had to stop working because of the pain, there is a bulge that shifts from my testicles to my pelvis area and is very painful. I am going to the hospital on Friday to request what kind of mesh was used in me, any other help would be much appreciated.

I sat on couch to dress my feet this morning brought foot up across other leg. I had gotten a knot and a twisting burning feeling under right breast. Did I pull something?? FDA Crime Head To Depart Amid Misconduct Claims
November 24, 2010

Terry Vermillion on Tuesday reportedly told U.S. Food and Drug Administration staff that he would step down as head of the agency's Office of Criminal Investigations, where he served for 18 years, about two months after a whistleblower accused him of unethical conduct.

Has anyone else had an Onlay Mesh installed on the upper abdomin? I have on 3-1-10, on 10-16-10 was operated again because of very bad staff infection. They removed about 1/2 of the mesh. I am still on a wound vac, but the pain about 3" from the wound is unbearable. I was on IV antibiotics for 3 weeks and oral since then. Please anyone with problems with an Onlay Mesh implant, let me know if I have any recourse.

You probably have a recurrent hernia. Why don't you call your surgeon to have him/her check this out.

Looked this article up online.....this guy was one of the highest paid executives at the FDA.$41 million budget a year! Jeez-O-Pete! Anyway did anyone see the ad on TV concerning a Lawsuit for damages from Tissue(porcine?)implant for hernias?Recurrent hernias, pain, blah blah F-ing blah...does this sound familiar people?...and we still can't get a Lawsuit for hernia mesh. You will have to excuse me today because I have been having a REALLY bad pain week. I am So tired of this. Try to work and end up curled up in a ball sick and hurting. I will probably die before any of us will see Ethicon taken to court for this crap they have put out there. Want to feel better and try and do the old mental thing.....OOoommmmm it doesn't hurt........OOooommmmmm its all in your mind OOooommmmmm.....Crap it still hurts like hell! So there we go another day living with mesh....not good folks not good. Take Care and God Bless!.........rmh

A time to Reflect:

1. Many complainers should see one of the hernia specialists recommended by some people on this board.

2. Once you have treatment and it is successful
Please report back to this board.

3. The FDA and the Obama administration want to impose strict rules for natural health medicine.
I am not necessarily against natural medicine and supplements as per CODEX regulations but what are they doing about the heavy weight Marlex meshes that so many of us have suffered from?(Aubrey in Shoreline for example). Instead they should be going after Ethicon, etc. But they have more money than the supplement companies.

P.S.

To ALS or anyone, can you tell me what individuals invented the Marlex mesh? Can they be sued?

If any of you have been following the news this morning (Yahoo Finance Headlines), they say Wikileaks has a lot of unethical information it should release next year about the pharmaceutical companies. It will be interesting if anything is mentioned about hernia mesh implants. If so, I am sure it could be
helpful to those seeking settlements from bad hernia mesh products.

Was this a scar from a prior hernia surgery? How long ago was your surgery?

I just had a doctor tell me that he thought it was voodoo practice to say that adhesions/scar tissue caused pain and there was no proof....that doctor was scarier than voodoo...I will never go back to him.
