This is great news for the families who are bled by all the costs they bear when their loved ones go to prison. But what will global tel link do now that they can't make big money off of prisoners? And the poor state won't have all that money to use for their expenses, mostly employee related. That means they will have to look for other ways to gouge inmates and their families to make that money up.
Ohio Citizens have no idea how much the state prisons gouge the public. The prison system has not raised state pay in 10 years. On the other hand, they raise commissary prices once or twice every year. And the inmates are expected to buy hygiene and over the counter meds, as well as writing materiels. They have to pay 3.00 for a doctor visit that is unscheduled. Most of the over the counter meds used to be supplied by the state infirmary, and in many cases they don't work. Example: Inmate pays 4.00 to 5.00 for foot powder because he has a bad rash between his toes, and the doctors won't treat it. They say the foot powder will clear it up in two weeks. This goes on for 5 months until it has turned into a full blown infection and raw flesh. The inmate is out precious money he has wasted on the foot powder, as well as having pain every time they walk. Finally the doctor is treating the full blown infection, but is it over? There are 11 other men in his pod that also have the rash between their toes. And they are still on the foot powder thing until it progresses to infection. Is it possible that the showers are the cause and a thorough disinfecting needs to be done there? There is no way an inmate can buy his basics on 17. a month, and that is average pay. So either his people on the outside have to pay for his needs, or he must steal. And that leads to a lot of the fights. Every year the state cuts the prison budget, moving more expense onto family or the inmate must steal more. By the way, the public defenders tell us that they don't have the money to do any appeals except for the death penalty and life terms. If State Laws put the person in prison, then the state should supply their clothing and basic hygiene and medicines. And the state should make public defenders available to the indigent. If the state can't afford the prison costs, then the lawmakers need to review their laws and eliminate some of them and/or find other methods to rehabilitate.

I swear I saw him re-engineering Astro (our mechanical dog) and Rose (our Robot) and collecting a huge paycheck from NASA as a contractor. When Rosie said she had to do the laundry, he was digging into mom's and my underwear. Spacely Sprockets wanted to hire him, but unfortunately, the drug test came back dirty. It never did make sense why he said he made so much money but looked like a dirty hippy. He was breaking into Elroy's piggy bank to get a ticket home after NASA fired him.
