The friend didn't back out last minute. She backed out early during the arrangements of the trip months ago. Sarai insisted she was still going to go and insisted her husband give her permission to travel to that country. Yes, this is a weird story, but we may never know what happened.
Anna wrote:
There's a lot more to the story than what the family is telling. If they truly want to find out what happened to her and why then they need to be honest, especially the best friend who claimed she "backed out at the last minute". One source close to the investigation said ut “being cooperative and being helpful are two different things,” regarding her family "cooperating with investigators".

I feel so sorry for her hard working bus driver husband. He deserves better than this. God bless him, and his children.

There was a man who killed his two kids and himself and they said his wife was in Turkey traveling. It was on the news about two weeks ago, a few days before this story came out. Is she the wife of the guy who killed himself and his kids? Maybe someone was after the whole family and killed all four of them.

Reading most of the posts, it appears that most don't really know much about Turkey. Please learn more about the country before making lame comments. Aside from that, it is clear that she used poor judgement regardless of where you are traveling in the world. Her poor judgement was to be free meet someone have an affair and discover herself. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. If she went as a tourist and used wise judgement, she would have been safe, insted she wanted to have a tryst. Sad, she could have done that without having to travel very far. I would have did her locally.

She was desperate to discover herself. It is very attractive to travel to an exotic location and get caught up with being free. She was carrying mental baggage that put her gaurd down while traveling alone internationally. She got caught up in th heat of the moment and got laid. She wasn't thinking in the perspective that you are alone, female, in a strange land. It got the best of her. Rest her soul.

American woman goes to a Muslim country for sex with a Muslim man. Result: he kills her. What the heck was she thinking???

Why does the FBI have to investigate this? Even here in America, young women seek sex with nefarious men who are dangerous.

What Sarai should get is a Darwin Award. The FBI should not waste taxpayer money. Its pretty clear, sexual promiscuity is not very well tolerated in Muslim Turkey.
