If that's what you think, pick up a news paper and read the news not just the sports or the comics.The war in Iraq is killing more people that don't diserve to die for land that is not theirs and getting controled by one person that can't contral him self.Thats sounds like a gang hit on oil(Bush)driven by revange for his dad. I'm a middle-aged woman who works in the BP school district and I'm around these supposed gangbangers every day. You know what? They are all just kids. They dress gang style, speak the language, and act it out as if it's their choice; it isn't. They almost have to join a gang for protection against some other gang. How horrible to have to live in fear for your life at such a young age. These kids haven't been around the block yet, haven't even tasted all the foods, yet they have huge worries about living to see the next day.
The kids I know are respectful, funny, kind, and even polite. It's how they are treated that brings out the bad in them, just like anyone else. There are a few who are really hard core and might be scary to run into alone on a dark night, but most of them I wouldn't worry about if I met them outside of school. They are simply young kids on their way out of school and trying to decide what to do with their lives. Some of them have parents who are or were in gangs, so its all that they know. Some are still struggling with English and haven't enough money to have a home with their immediate family. Some have been given up on by the "system" and have given up on themselves. Yes, they can be a pain, no, I don't condone banging or the lifestyle, but I can understand how it happens. What I want to tell the young bangers is that I've had several students die in the past 5 years. It hurts me. It doesn't just affect their parents and family, but all the other people who know them. Juan and Tommy were the first and I still have a hard time thinking of the last time I saw and spoke to Juan. You are all too young to give up on life so please try. Try to get your education, try to move up and out of that mindset, try to see your value. I value you all. Ok, call me a bleeding heart if you wish, but I truly mean what I say here and I hope that someone gets a bit of value from it. |
