It seems like being fireproof would be a good thing?

Yeah thats why they have flame retardant eggs. Cool.

Population pollution. The more people there are in Southern California, the more "poison" junk there is for the landfills.

"Information from these species can be useful to us in protecting the sensitive members of our population like infants, children and pregnant women."
They know now that the use of flame retardant on beds and bedding is harming our kids but the government will do nothing about it. Instead they tell parents to put their babies on their backs as if that will somehow make them immune to the dangerous chemicals and metals (antimony & arsenic) in their beds. Studies on babies that have died of SIDS have all been found to have antimony & arsenic in their livers. Will it take birds being harmed for them to finally take action as to how how they are poisoning humans? My son is autistic and his lab tests show sky-high levels of antimony. |

We are poisoning our earth and everything in it, this has got to stop. I love nature and the way it works; these falcons are not large birds, yet can hit 175 miles per hour, that is perfection in design much the way the sleek and elegant cheetah can hit 70 miles per hour in THREE SECONDS. Next time your on the freeway, think about that.
Save nature, be green! |

I can just hear it now. Remember during the 60's right before "The Wonderful World of Disney" came on, there were those commercials that went like this. "Better living through chemistry......Monsanto."
They were big into vinyls and a whole line of plastics. There was even a "home of the future" display at Disneyland / Anaheim. It was made of construction grade plastics. Looked nice and all that..........the exhibit was by Monsanto. We are paying for all that "better living" now......... |

Is it possible that the falcons cause the pollution? It seems like there's not a problem without them.

Huh? |
|
Huh??? How do you think the falcons are causing flame retardant particle pollution? |
|
It's highly likely that the birds are dispersing the chemical widely across the basin by raiding the lined landfills that would otherwise keep the chemical contained. But for the birds diving into the garbage to scavange for rats and ferel cats that may have ingested it, it would be contained in the high 90%s. http://schoolipm.ifas.ufl.edu/tp32.htm So yes, the hypothesis that the birds are causal seems like a good one. |
|
It seems to me like the cause is putting flame retardant chemicals (on virtually everything) that disperse particles is the cause/problem, not the animals (including people) who are unknowingly spread it and breathing it. Why do people blame animals for something we do? We put the chemicals out there. |

There's no BLAME - it's just and EXPLANATION Now ILLEGALS crossing the border, that's someone to BLAME for breaking the law. |

Did anyone notice that there was actually good news in this story? Or that, despite the headline, the problem is not simply a Harbor area one? Here's the truth- the problem appears up and down the coast; it's a much larger issue than our bridge birds, which are not any more polluted with this toxin than any others. Second- we have a new breeding pair on the VT bridge! This is great news that was buried at the very end of the article. The Breeze could have easily emphasised the positives or universal aspects of this story, while still exposing the issue but, instead, they chose to show the Harbor in its worst possible light.

Your thinking is faulty. Flame retardant is in everybody's home so it doesn't require birds to spread it. By law, every mattress (including futons, cribs, bassinets, playpens etc) contains flame retardant as does the bedding. The only way to get a non-flame retardant bed is to obtain a prescription and have one specially made. The government is forcing flame retardant down our throats when the only real risk of fire is if one is smoking in bed (most die from smoke inhalation before fire reaches the bed). In the effort to save the life of one, millions get poisoned daily while we wonder why we have so many mental and development disorders. |
|
There is too BLAME. We are to blame for putting these chemicals on everything. And your EXPLANATION is not a valid one. And, yet again, someone who needs to make an issue about immigration where it is not a valid point in the discussion. |
|
Are you one of those vaccine kooks too? You think they cause diseases? |
