This action is one of the reasons so many don't like unions. They were offered a fair contract but turned it down because they would have to pay more for health insurance. There are about 50 million people in this country without any insurance at all and I'm sure most of them would love to have a job at this company. The greed of the insurance companies is forcing employers to ask for greater contributions from employees. I think the union is being very unreasonable!

The article didn't say but I'm confident that a bonus and a 8% raise doesn't compare to a 4 fold increase in their healthcare cost, If given the choice, I would insist on Insurance, screw the bonus and the guaranteed raises.
Then again, I would love to have the opportunity. This year, I lost my vacation pay, 401k, insurance and forget about a raise, holiday bonus etc.

You can't really asses what they turned down without knowing what the insurance program was. Was it a so called Cadilliac Plan or more like what I got. What went up 4 times, is it was 15 dollars or 100 dollars which went up 4 times I am not surprised.

Everyones insurance went up this year (thanks Obama) so they should not have been surprised by that.
