1) the Liberty was in international waters<quoted text>
How does it feel to be this clueless. Have you ever flown in a jet ... in a combat zone!!! The USS Liberty was in Egyptian waters, it was the typical color of a combat ship. medium grey. Commercial ships would be painted white with some red, blue, green thrown in.
Do you know why military ships are painted a flat medium grey and commercial ships are painted with bright colors? Commercial ships WANT to be scene whereas military ships do not.
Next, two IAF jets made a high speed recon of the "grey ship". Now, if you even suspect it is an enemy ship, especially a ARMED warship, you will not make a close-in, low-speed pass as they just might shoot you azz out of the sky.
Soo, the USS Liberty was MISS identified as an Egyptian destroyer and .... attacked. In actuality the USS Liberty was only lightly damaged. Oh, they why did only 34 get killed? Well, if the IAF wanted to sink it, they would have and most would have been killed.
During WII we had similar sized ships cut in half in an attack .... by prop planes .... travelling at one third the speed .... with weapon loads one third of a modern jet fighter plane.
During the 1973 we had a SR-71 over fly both Egypt and Israel and both countries shot SAMs at it. Now, if you are flying a mach 3 jet at 80,000 feet and they shoot a mach 4 missile ... you have time to out run or maneuver the missile. Why did the Israelis shoot at OUR SR-71? It was their airspace, we did not tell them we were flying over and .... the plane came from Egyptian air space ... during time of war.
Are you using Wojo's Logic?
2) it was flying American flag
3) the numbers were clearly visible
4) Israel screwed up
