We need more than this to make the article acceptable.

Here's a better article with more information. Sounds like UPS might have been participating in a sting and the driver bungled it.

I don't get it...did he 'turn in' the package to proper authorities or did he 'keep' the package for his own purposes? Dispatch reporting leaves somethings to be desired.

Thanks Jim for the other article, much better informed after reading that one. I'd think he should of been fired for opening the package to see what was inside, regardless if there were drugs or not. When can the UPS man/woman just go opening your packages? I also wonder why he thought there were drugs inside the package. The article never really goes into any detail about that.

This is not a Dispatch article. They took a shorter version of the article repackaged by the Associated Press.

So then show a cop. No reason for him to open the package.

He claims he turned it over to a loss-prevention employee after his shift.

Unfortunately I have to agree with UPS on this one. The man's job is to deliver packages. His job is not to inspect the contents or do anything else with the packages.

If he finds the package suspicious he should report it to his supervisor. If the supervisor tells him to deliver it he should deliver it. If it turns out that there is a problem, he is in the clear and the supervisor is responsible.

Anyone who has ever been a supervisor or run a business will agree with this logic.

Yes, that is 100% true. We had very responsible positions. If anything went wrong, we (supervisor) were 100% responsible.

UPS will fire anyone for anything. I spent 13 years there, the worst part of my life. A terrible place to work. Management by intimidation is thier motto. This guy had a supervisor going for the next rung, and a scalp on his lodge pole looks good.
