Great Lakes become nearly covered with ice

just visited the ice caves on the shore at the east end of the Apostle islands yesterday... thousands a day are flocking to walk out to them, as they always do when the south shore freezes over.
not a really rare occasion. happened just five years ago..
pretty early this year, though..usually happens in march or so..
