Pay your bills with more debt. Thats about as smart as a bag of hammers. Most would look at the expenses and make cuts to the waste and duplication etc. We need someone to go through the entire mess from top to bottom and also outlaw spending more than the income on a yearly basis. Also have to figure in making principal payments toward the debt and not just interest.

Lets begin with subsidies to Oil Companies, and Commercial Farmers. Then allow the Bush tax cuts which we can not afford to expire. The 2003 Tax cuts, eerily amount to the very 2013 Budget Deficit of $650 Billion.

Eliminating those subsidies to the very profitable Oil Companies and Commercial Farmers, and allowing the 2003 Tax cuts to expire would eliminate the 2013 Deficit and give America a surplus.

We had not had a surplus since Bill Clinton.

If we outlawed spending more than annual income, most people could not afford to buy a home or even that new car. The middle class would stop spending money they would have borrowed to buy goods and services from manufacturers and service providers and our economy would stop expanding. The rich would grow less rich and the poor would get poorer.

Banks, of course, would never permit that to happen because banking is the lending business. They have no interest in having no interest.

I agree that we need someone to go through the entire mess from top to bottom, but not to assume the solution is to destroy the bottom. After all, it’s none other than the very base of our economy.

We need to understand that the interests of the wealthy (our job creators, as it were) are exactly the same as those of working people. We need to re-establish a more equitable balance. I would consign your “bag of hammers” metaphor to the few ultra-wealthy who do not understand this simple, yet basic, equation. The Koch brothers, who inherited amazing wealth, seem to be heading the parade of victims celebrating their propaganda.

We need to behave rationally if we’re to succeed. Now is a terrible time to destroy what we have out of anger. It would be a major and costly mistake if we refuse to pay our bills, especially for a cause that makes absolutely no sense.

I invite you to design a better system.

Most conservatives have no clue how the American Economy works. They have no concept that major manufacturers borrow to make pay roll until they are paid for delivered goods and services.

They can not understand that any slow down in the economy also shrinks the expected revenue from tax collection into the Government month over month.

They can not phantom the citizens services necessary to make America a thriving community to live in and operate a for profit venture.

Most of them think Freedom has no cost involved.

It’s amazing, isn’t it? I appreciate that they serve to argue for a balanced spending, but when they’re in charge, they spend like crazy and blame Democrats for running our economy into the ground. Fortunately, each time they've messed up, we elect more practical progressive servants to rescue us back from the pits of disaster. Of course, rather than acknowledge his reality, the claim that we’re only falling deeper into those pits and blaming their progressive servants for it rather than more appropriately crediting them.

Adding new arrogance to their blind incompetence, their current fiasco is their worst yet, as they actually celebrate their destruction of our economic order, their willingness to destroy if they can’t have everything they want without compromise.

You can not run anything on credit forever. At some point the bills come due. How was the WW2 debts paid. The government does not make money, it only consumes it. You took me out of context on purpose. I was not speaking of people spending more than income, I was only referring to the fed budget. It only uses the peoples money and should not be able to spend more than it takes in.

Why would I purposely take you out of context? It would serve no useful purpose to build a straw man with whom to argue. If I disagree with you, I’m not going to attempt using trickery in an effort to win an argument. Do I look like a Republican?

I apparently incorrectly assumed you would recognize that I was using personal spending as an analog for government spending. There are certainly some differences, but enough similarities to warrant the analogy as an heuristic.

Be those as they may, you may be correct when you say we can’t run on credit forever. Or maybe not. There are valid arguments for both of these opposing positions. The bottom line is that defaulting on our debt would help fulfill the likelihood of not being able to keep running on credit.

We all run on credit in today’s international economic system. The value of all modern currencies is determined by our relative confidence in them. Currencies are commodities that are traded in the international market place and human confidence is a psychological factor. The reigning champion has been the US dollar, but this will take a hit if John Boehner’s Republican crew lets us go into default. That disaster would would devalue the dollar by decreasing confidence in it and cause us to pay more to borrow.

By the way, if you’re right about not being able to run forever on credit, you could make a killing by leveraging gold and other commodities futures. The only question would be the best timing. Trading futures is like betting on horses at the race track and striking is like hitting the jackpot when a long shot wins.

Good luck!

Oh stop with this nonsense, the typical member of the American middle class receives more in standard deductions then their tax burden.

Without the citizen services provided by Federal, Local and State Governments, America wouldn't be a viable place to take part in the economic order we all enjoy to earn a livelihood.

he also does not realize two important factors regarding that era;

1 - money was still backed by gold - therefore our currency was worth something / these people don't realize we exist on Fiat Currency - thank another republican (Nixon - 1971) for "temporarily" taking us off the gold standard - 42 years later, no change.

2 - with all industrialized nations wiped out after WW2, the United States was in fact the only country capable of mass production, with obvious worldwide need for our goods. This built the middle class, but revitalization in those decimated nations now produce at 1/10th the labor and material costs we incur.

To be honest with you, I'm mildly surprised by the degree of intelligence among those who seemingly support a diverse America that frequent these boards.

The rogues who come here in support of the GOP aren't the brightest of bulbs in the box of light bulbs. All they have are lies and exaggeration and little to no foundations on America and our history. So they are speaking out of ignorance and lack of facts to protect their hurt feeling when being douched with doses of the truth.

The Republicans as a political party have been lying about Budgets, Spending and motives for their agenda since before 1970. They have seemingly sold these people a bill of goods that are worthless in making them believe that poor equal black, and since nobody wants to be identified as poor and low income some have accepted that being white and poor is a better social status in America. Making it easy for them to support political ideas that are always against their own self interest.

My wife works at a hospital. It's sad that some of the whites who don't have insurance are against Obamacare for no other reason than because he's black. Their reality hits them in the face when they are left in the hallways of the hospital because they, themselves are uninsured. Some of these same people would rather die than to ask for help to save their own lives when hit with a critical illness.

Most of you independents, and democrats on these boards would have a better exchange of idea among yourselves, because you guys have a wealth of understanding of America and the economy.

The GOP supporters are only armed with today's daily sound bite and not information.

Example, how does a Congressmen vote for a shut down after running to shut down the Government and then not know the consequence on the American troops on the battle field? Who and why doesn't a congressmen know who pays the death benefits of a fallen troop in the field of battle?

If these morons don't know this how much more, or less about American policies don't these lunatics know?

These are the people in congress making decisions and not necessarily representing their district constituents. The Tea Bag Republicans are willing to leave our fallen troops on the battle field to achieve their personal political achievements fueled by hatred of the Black guy in the White House.

That's skunk rotten and pathetic........

That's first rate tyranny.

Let's be real here. When we have elected officials talking about vaginal probes and "legitimate" rape, do you really expect them to know anything about the country they live in? Not to mention birth certificates, messiahs, end of days, and the anti-christ.
