(WASHINGTON)— A study of a dozen of last year’s wildest weather events finds that in about half the cases, manmade global warming increased the likelihood of their occurrence.

Researchers with the United States and British governments concluded Thursday that the other cases reflected the random freakiness of weather.

They said climate change had made these events more likely: U.S. heat waves, Superstorm Sandy flooding, shrinking Arctic sea ice, drought in Europe’s Iberian peninsula, and extreme rainfall in Australia and New Zealand.

They found no connection for the U.S. drought, Europe’s summer extremes, a cold spell in the Netherlands’ winter, drought in eastern Kenya and Somalia, floods in northern China and heavy rain in southwestern Japan.

The study appears in in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.

You did not read the summary I posted first! You did not notice the issue contains not just one paper but several!

that's my point, son!!! i did read your "interpretation".... .then the article. the fact that it was about formululating a narrative based on 'not so connected' papers (let alone factual ones) instead of actual observations was the entire reason for my post!!!

<quoted text>5% is fair?!?! Lol... How do you factually determine fair, or is that just your wannabe opinion? The US pays over 3.5 times what your country pays, so put a sock in it and respect the wishes from those who have baled your arses out more than once...and who also pays the bulk of the bills.
If you so eagerly defend the corrupt UN I can only say that it's because people like you are where you're at...and Germany calls the shots in the EU.
Psssssst.... I'm not a "conservie". <sarcastic British accent intended>
Yes 5% is fair compared to comparable countries with similar populations. LOOK AT THE FACTS and not you own petty tight a$$ed jealousy. Just because you don’t like it is your problem, live with it. The world without the UN would be a far different and more lawless place that it is today. And still you have not provided ANY evidence to back up your slanderous claim that the UN is corrupt. Seems you are full of bluster and sh|te while you hide behind your anonymous avatar.

The US has over 5 times the population of the UK so with a population of over 300 million you are paying less per capita than a country with a population of 60 million. It seems that the US gets a discount for bulk buying to the extent that per capita you are repaying not much more than some third world countries.

Oh wow, here we go, another dumb fool who is ignorant of anything outside US borders - Bailed us out? When? Is this what US schools are now teaching as history? This would of course explain your ignorance of - Iraq? Nope that the was UK (and others) hanging on to every lie Bush dribbled and bailing you out. So how about Afghanistan, nope that was the UN bailing the US out after the 9/11 attacks? Korea? Vietnam? Actually the UK did not serve in Vietnam but hey it was still a total US disaster - yes?

The only time in more than 60 years that the US military has ever been involved in a completely successful action is a war against a group of poorly armed Caribbean Island hill farmers.

In WW2 you came in late to join part of a team because Hitler declared war on the US the day following Pearl Harbour, otherwise the US had no intention of getting down from the fence over Europe. That war was won because Hitler “unwisely” chose to invade Russia and so spread his troops too thin. But hey I’m glad you got down from the fence and helped out, it is estimated that without US help the 1939 (thirty nine)– 45 war in Europe would have been extended by between 3 months and 2 years. You must also consider the contribution the UK and other allies gave the US in the Pacific, which for some reason tends to be largely forgotten in US military history.

You want to start sticking your foot in your fat mouth when you shout about a history your don’t understand outside you own version of indoctrinated patriotism then feel free to kick your teeth in.

I don’t actually care what you call yourself, I can only say what your post tell me and they tell me that you certainly whinge like a right wing whinger. BTW what’s a “conservie”? is that some Americanism based in ignorance that has not done the rounds outside your .hood yet?

I was responding to that response in that water is not a fossil fuel
Of course, water isn't a fossil fuel, the energy to take that Hydrogen from water comes from fossil fuel. If the energy in the fuel cell was generated with a coal plant, that energy is as dirty as coal exhaust. Just, not dirty when burned into water.

I just visited the Maldives, those atolls have been sinking for hundreds of millions of years. Sometimes the reef grows larger and the seas fall; islands are made of calcium carbonate from coral.

Maybe there used to be volcanoes; the only signs I saw was fossil fuel use. No production of any energy, only imports. No wind turbines, solar panels and only two sail boats. Lots of power boats using fossil fuel.

Your tour of noisy fun is NOT science.

Read this from the Seattle Times about ocean acidification:

Waters welling up from the deep along the coast during certain wind events are naturally rich in carbon dioxide and bring that CO2-rich water right to the surface. That CO2 reduces the availability of certain chemicals in the marine water that young oysters draw upon to form their shells.

“This has been known for a long time and been thoroughly published and vetted in the published scientific literature for a couple of decades,” said Hales.

Under normal conditions, Pacific oysters, a nonnative species here, do OK, but live right at the edge of their tolerance.

But just a little extra CO2 can push larval oysters over a threshold so that they have trouble making shells. This, too,“has been covered extensively in the recent scientific literature and the cause of the sensitivity is known,” Hales said.

These changes in ocean CO2 were the leading cause of death for billions of larval oysters at Whiskey Creek, a major shellfish hatchery along the Oregon coast that supplies young oysters to many of the shellfish growers in Washington. Scientists know this through their own research. Even more telling, Hales said, is that when hatchery workers found ways to reduce the CO2, oysters stopped dying.

When's the last time you ate oysters on the half-shell?

This is arcana, not science. Global warming always happens where people aren't around to observe, or at night when people sleep. SB isn't discussing the beautiful coral I've seen while snorkeling, he's writing about deep oceans where nobody dives.

As I said, of course it isn’t, yet you implied otherwise.

You really don’t seem to have much understanding of both the manufacture of fuel cells or how they work.
