Yes, Mr. Hurt is that mediocre a congressman. No opinion on uranium mining, no sir; and can barely articulate the GOP party line on anything else. Sure saves the trouble of ever asking him what he thinks. Just check whatever Mr. Cantor's position is and put a ditto mark next to it. That's the happy result of gerrymandering the 5th district to keep a nonentity like Mr. Hurt in a safe seat. Surely even Republican voters deserve better.

I hope Virginia lifts the ban on Uranium. The United States can stop spending money on Uranium from other countries for at least 2 1/2 years. There's two nuclear reactors in Virginia along with Submarines that are fueled by Uranium. How dumb does it sound that Uranium is already in Virginia, but Virginians don't want Uranium mined in Virginia. We like our Nuclear Reactors and Submarines and we will ship the Uranium here, but don't dig it up and use it here. Really, and Gov. McDonnell needs his face slapped, if he's going to run for the President of the United States and he's not for clean energy now, well consider himself out of the race.

Congressman Hurt, radioactive pollutants do not know state boundaries. North Carolina is thirty miles south of Coles Hill. Accept responsibility as our Congressman and take a position. Or do you have personal interests in this project beyond the money you've accepted from Uranium Virginia, Inc., a company wholly-owned by Canadian Amalco?

He;s not really stepping back, he's just holding out for more money under the table, he'll get it and it will go through.

I think Mr Hurt is doing the right thing. I am from Chatham, VA and a the proposed uranium mine on Coles Hill will not only be dangerous but it will kill property values for the area. And as for clean energy, ask the people in Japan about clean nuclear energy. Some people are saying here that a spill will never happen here and it can be mined safely, I am sure the people at the reactor in Japan thought the same thing. As for Mr Hurt he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

You're talking about MY drinking water as I live very close to Cole's Hill and i'd bet YOU do not, do you?
You think mining uranium in Virginia will lower your electric bill? Because it won't. Rates won't go down. People will have their water contaminated and the area will become a cancer cell. Unless you're an investor in the deal you wnot see anything good come from the deal.
As a small business owner with about 30 employees, I will close my doors and move to another state the day they allow mining. Won't even sell my business, I'll just shut it down and leave the state. I know several other business owners who are considering leaving as well. You'll lose more jobs than you create.

And it's actually more expensive than some conventional fuels because it's so dangerous and requires so much redundancy to prevent Chernobyl or Fukushima. There are safer reactor designs than what is in production, though. Read up on pebble bed reactors.
According to those charts, it's more expensive than gas, wind, and geothermal.
