Many blacks shrug off Obama's new view on gays

ARDMORE, Pa. - Like many black Americans, Dorsey Jackson does not believe in gay marriage, but he wasn't disillusioned when Barack Obama became the first president to support it.

The Harlem Renaissance flourished espite the fact that certain notable artists were gay or bi.
I don't see how your sexual orientation will make you more or less creative. I've no evidence that the gay Langston Hughes was less creative than the straight Richard Wright. No evidence that the straight (and anti-gay) Eldridge Cleaver was more creative than the prolific gay writer James Baldwin.
In fact, they preferred gay soldiers because they didn't leave behind widows and orphans. That's a fact. The Bible writers hated them because they were the most efficient fighting machine known at that time. The Romans considered the Bible writers to be backward and superstitious. Greece was a great country until Christianity took root. The Romans eventually found the army to be too expensive, so they adopted Christianity as a means to control people.

Back in the 1990s I heard an AA woman say that discrimination against gays was wrong in every other area of life but military service. She said that exception made sense "because our soldiers can't fight well if there are homosexuals in their ranks." I pointed out to her that the Spartans, who had the best army in Greece, had more gay soldiers than any other. And also that the Macedonian army of Phillip and Alexander the Great, which was the best Greek army after the decline of the Spartans, has many openly gay troops.(Alexander himself went BOTH ways). That didn't make them less efficient. She then said that I was comparing apples and oranges because American soldiers are different from other soldier. "no matter what other soldiers do, AMERICAN soldiers can't fight if there are gays in their ranks."
"But soldiers are soldiers" I insisted. "So I am at best comparing different brands of apples, not apples and oranges. And if you say that American soldiers can't perform as well as other soldiers who know there are gays in their ranks, they've virtually conceded that American soldiers are not as good as others. that others are superior to Americans. Surely you don't believe that. Besidss, you know as well as I that there are gays in the army now and always have beeen--even if under cover. But that didn't stop us from winning the Battle of Noarmandy any more than it stopped the Greeks (led by Sparta) from winning the Battle of Platea."

Which law do you believe guarantees any right to marriage?
The right to marriage is found less in legislated law, and more in legal case history. It was first recognized by SCOTUS to be in the group of rights called "natural rights," around a hundred years ago. There have been three landmark cases in which they reiterated that the marriage contract is a right. The most recent was Loving vs. VA (1967...or maybe 62? I forget). I can look up the quote if needed.

Sorry, just checked. The latest SCOTUS decision reaffirming the fundamental right to marry was in 1987. Loving vs. VA is also one of the decisions that affirms this right, but it is the third most recent.

Essentially, the court has found time and time again that marriage is a right (both fundamental and natural).

Wastewater, it is the ugliness of your way of living. The meaness of what mother nature cursed you with in a world where men with specific goals without being bothered by responsibilities come to power. There are many who serve in some capacity with secret lives. We find out some of them often and if they are in a system of not approving of the same are castigated for it in America today. The hidden ones more often or not approve of draconian measures on the general population when economics reaches a sad point. And you see it over and over. Look at the glee of people in power as tyranny is taking over. they will see millions persecute, arrested, and killed before this is over. Then they will be hunted down and dealt with after this is done although that may not be a guarantee. The sickening thing is many of their own suffers with the rest of the population. Ask the victims in the last century as a great example.

The western Roman fell not because of Christianity but due to corruption, compliancy, tolerance, and debt! The eastern Roman empire was the one that credited christianity, instead of a comet, for their reunification victory.

Greece went down way before christianity arrived there (The Roman simply overtook them 70 BC)!

Homos simply increase the stress inside a platoon. Now we can't talk about women, salivate about women, and lust about women when a freaky gay is around! In the sleeping pit, we need to be carefull of a freaking gay lusting us!

Just simply obey nature's law of reproduction! That is why you are equipped (piped up) for that purpose!

The NRA is the #1 terroist organization in the world!
Voth, 39, was a good choice for a Sisyphean task. Strapping and sandy-haired, the former Marine is cool-headed and punctilious to a fault. In 2009 the ATF named him outstanding law-enforcement employee of the year for dismantling two violent street gangs in Minneapolis. He was the “hardest working federal agent I’ve come across,” says John Biederman, a sergeant with the Minneapolis Police Department. But as Voth left to become the group supervisor of Phoenix Group VII, a friend warned him:“You’re destined to fail.”

Voth’s mandate was to stop gun traffickers in Arizona, the state ranked by the gun-control advocacy group Legal Community Against Violence as having the nation’s “weakest gun violence prevention laws.” Just 200 miles from Mexico, which prohibits gun sales, the Phoenix area is home to 853 federally licensed firearms dealers. Billboards advertise volume discounts for multiple purchases.

Customers can legally buy as many weapons as they want in Arizona as long as they’re 18 or older and pass a criminal background check. There are no waiting periods and no need for permits, and buyers are allowed to resell the guns.“In Arizona,” says Voth,“someone buying three guns is like someone buying a sandwich.”

It wasn't a big deal until after WWII. I knew an old Marine who told me about traveling on one of those old navy ships where they strung hammocks on the decks in the tropics. The gay sailors would place their sailor's cap over their crotch. It was a sign. Many gay sailors were having sex. Everyone else knew about it and didn't really care.

By saying government change the male/female marriage requirement to make it unisex.

I don't want to require same-sex people do anything; marriage isn't for everyone.

Or, what about somebody born without gender? By LL.F.'s argument, they too should have marriage equality. If your argument is sympathy, why have any standards at all?

They will attack consent after they attack gender roles, custom and religious creed. Mark my words.

Since none of those things change with marriage equality, your post is pointless. For example. A black man marries a black woman. Marriage equality will not affect the decision to do so. A black man divorces a black woman. Marriage equality will make no difference to that decision.

The bottom line is heterosexual couples will continue to function as they always have with or without same-sex marriage. Your supposition is a complete fallacy.

Well you did better than I. For I married an Afro-Latin lady during the 1990s, and we divorced in 2001. Gays had nothing to do with our divorce. We straights can't blame our marital ills on the gays. We've had 50% divorce rates years--decades--before gay marriage was even part of public discussion and debate.

Marriage is something which requires love, commitment, and sacrifice. I agree with you. How can extending marriage benefits to committed same sex couple have any negative consequences on opposite sex marriages? I would predict the opposite by recognizing commitment where it already exists. Such commitment is a very special thing.

Thanks for sharing.

Well, the stress gays supposedly created didn't stop Spartan, Macedonian and Roman armies from winning most of their battles.
And I don't know about you, but most of us straight guys don't stop talking about, fantasizing about or lusting after women just because some gay guy happens to be present. Indeed, when a desirable woman is around, how many of us even notice the presence of a gay guy. Our eyes are not pealed on him. LOL!

Freece was conquered by Rome in 146B.C. A Christianized Westeren Roman empire finally collapsed in the Fifth century AD.
Most of Eastern Roman Empire, which did linger on for centuries longer, was swallowed up by Muslim conquerors. And the last stronghold of the Eastern empire fell to th Turks (Muslim) in the 1400s.
What exactly religion has to do with the longevity of empires is unclear.
