What the automakers did was not merely incompetence. It was also greed, it was insouciance, it was arrogance, it was all of the faults of 21st century capitalism rolled up and magnified. Something still needed to be done, though. But along with the money should be boot-camp training in economics, decency, and the modern world not described in 18th century thought or their contemporary regurgitation for the auto executives.

They did the right thing! We cannot let these companies fail! Now we need to hold their feet to the fire to get this thing turned around. The ramifications of letting them fail would be tremendous for the American workforce! No excuse for big salaries and CEO's getting raises. I want to buy American Cars, built by American workers!!

Let's hope that our leaders consider adding hybrid, alternative fuel, and increased fossil fuel economy rate incentives to this bailout. Doing so might well increase the chances of survival for the Big 3 while giving the U.S. taxpayer an added benefit.

Our leaders should also consider placing the same import taxes on all foreign vehicles sold in the U.S. that foreign countries place on U.S. vehicles imported into their countries.

American citizens also need to understand that excessive U.S. healthcare costs are killing our economy and that much of this is caused by the huge numbers of people that pay nothing for the healthcare they receive.

We are writing a bill whereby the federal government will be the first to be repaid when there is some money," said Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.

Could somebody please get Frank to release Freddie out of his pie hole? We all know he's hiding him in there somewhere......

Well golly gee you wonder why people cannot afford to pay medical bills? look at the cost of the care and the cost of insurance? who can afford it when you are being paid far less than what you should be getting paid?

Now unemployment is at an all time high, just where do you think people will get the money to pay for Medical Insurance from? Not to mention while laid off will the coverage still be good? I doubt it.

I am biding time on unemployment struggling to find another job after my company did mass cut backs, I have no insurance I have medical needs and am neglecting those needs in an attempt to avoid more medical bills. Do not give me one word of lip that people abuse the system, when it is not affordable what are we to do?

Pharmaceutical companies are just as much to blame along with pharmacies. Once my doctor ordered a prescription for me for 800 mg motrin tablets. Now if I was stupid I could have paid $20 for the prescription, but Motrin is an OTC medication and comes in tablets of 200 mg each, so what if I had to take 4 at a time to make up the 800 mg, I did so wilingly and paid under $5 for the bottle off of the shelf.

Doctors support the Pharmaceutical companies day in and day out, they have no concern for what we pay or if we can afford it as a general rule, if we the consumer do not know what we are being prescribed and how to lower the costs of those prescriptions we will continue to pay through the nose for medications and the execs at the pharmaceutical companies will continue to love us, so much in fact that they will still drive the prices higher and higher even in a recession.
