Obama will not ban guns. He'll support our 2nd amendment rights by redefining those rights and placing guns out of our reach.

I've heard that the police in Louisiana visited homes pre-Katrina and took people's guns so that they were unarmed when the looters came. I have three questions.

(1) Is this true?

(2) If the police come to your house and ask if you have a gun, must you answer?

(3) If they ask for your gun, must you give it to them?

It is true that in the aftermath of Katrina that the authorities confiscated firearms. Also of note, the ONLY pro-gun vote that the President Elect ever cast was for a Bill that would outlaw that practice.
As for the rest of his votes, they have been anti-gun.

His call for reasonable gun laws is of concern. What does he consider reasonable? What do I consider reasonable? What do you consider reasonable? It is all perspective.

If the President Elect fully understood the roots of gun control, and how 95% of all gun control laws have been directed at people of color, would he still support it?

1. Yes, it happened. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_gov... "Confiscation of Firearms"

2. No, per the Fifth Amendment and the Vitter Amendment of 2006 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disaster_Recover... ).

3. Maybe. The above mentioned act was modified to state that weapons may be kept as long as possesion is not prohbited under state or local laws i.e. a disaster is not consider a license to possess an illegal weapon. Likewise, the temporary surrender of a firearm could be required as a condition for entry into any mode of transportation used for rescue or evacuation.

One correction to my post: You asked if guns were collected pre-Katrina. The collections actually occurred post-Katrina, per Chief Compass' 8 September order.

The overarching question is whether it is the proper role of government to sniff at our constitutional rights and announce what is and what is not fragrant.

So what if President Obama supports responsible gun ownership? That is a good thing.

The majority of America agrees; otherwise he wouldn't have won the election, duh!

It is time for a change!

When they come for our guns they will find that a lot of citizens will want to gladly give them the ammo that is chambered in the gun.

You are correct in that statement. The role of government is severely restricted by the Constitution and for good reason.

How do you define responsible gun ownership?

This election was not decided on the issue of the 2nd Amendment. It was never seriously debated by Obama or McCain during their debates.

Would a change be to increase the amount of gun laws we already have? Or would change be targeting criminals who violate the civilized rules of society?

1.Obama endorsed Illinois handgun ban
2.Respect 2nd Amendment, but local gun bans ok
3.Concealed carry OK for retired police officers
4.Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality
5.Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons.
6.Increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms.
7.Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms.

Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers.

8.Exempt lawsuits brought against individuals who knowingly transfer a firearm that will be used to commit a violent or drug-trafficking crime
9.Exempt lawsuits against actions that result in death, physical injury or property damage due solely to a product defect
10.Call for the dismissal of all qualified civil liability actions pending on the date of enactment by the court in which the action was brought
11.Prohibit the manufacture, import, sale or delivery of armor piercing ammunition, and sets a minimum prison term of 15 years for violations
12.Require all licensed importers, manufacturers and dealers who engage in the transfer of handguns to provide secure gun storage or safety devices.

Yea sounds like man that understands the bill of rights.

yeah it is true the police in Louisiana visited homes after Katrina but the courts made them give them back.
i would say that is none of your business if anyone asks if i have guns.
i would not give up my guns as it is an infringement on my rights.

When a criminal with an illegal gun attempts to harm you or your family, you MUST be able to defend them and yourself. The only way to do that is to be armed. The police are 10 minutes away when you need them this second. Remember that!

"TidewaterLibertarian ",

There are a small number of videos available on Youtube which are not "conspiracy theorist" in nature which clearly show ordinary citizens being mistreated by local law enforcement personnel and/or National Guardsmen. The one that most disturbed me concerned an elderly woman who lived alone.

I recommend calling your local police department and asking them for their contingency plans following a catastrophic event such as a hurricane of Katrina's magnitude. I have family in Newport News and was considerably relieved to hear from a Newport News police officer that that City's preparations and procedures are quite advanced. With regards to what we're discussing on this post, the officer said: "That would never happen here."

I also recommend that you contact your local Sheriff's office and discuss with the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff(s) the article found through the following link:

http://www.keenefreepress.com/mambo/index.php...

This will be more effective if you can find a few like-minded citizens (i.e., responsible and respectful) to join you.

Community and a sense of brotherhood often "trumps" the "us versus them" mentality which overly zealous law enforcement personnel sometimes develop. If we view our fellow citizens as fellow citizens we're more likely to treat them with the respect they deserve. Likewise, if we make the effort and show our local law enforcement personnel that we are their fellow citizens they are more likely to treat us with the respect we deserve.

Best regards,

Charles

Hey Egg Man,,,your kind probably said the same things in Nazi Germany. "Take it easy,,nothing bad is going to happen". Yeah right. Make no mistake, there is something brewing. We would not be hearing about the 20,000 military personnel that will be deployed IN the USA (in spite of the fact that it's illegal to do this!), to "help" with domestic emergencies - whatever that means! The global economy is about to implode, KarlMarx/Hitler Obama is coming to power, the facist/socialist democrats are ready to do battle with LEGAL gun ownership. Don't you see this man? Can't you see the obvious?

Hitler was not a socialist (facism, which is right wing). Socialist believes in equality and Hitler obviously does NOT believe in equality. Far as socialism goes, explain WHY socialist countries are BETTER EDUCATED, HEALTHIER, and have LESS CRIME than the U.S. of A.?

Whoa JDUB! Who say's socialist country's citizens are better educated, healthier and have less crime? I've actually been to: Cuba, Russa(old), Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and a few other countries so I've got first hand awareness of how things REALLY work. The citizens of Canada, France and Italy(pretty socialist yes?) are FAR LESS healthy with very poor health care systems. You wait for up to 6 months for simple heath tests. The crime in those countries is equal or HIGHER than the USA (per capita!). There is gun crime in Canada, Australia and Britain which is strange since guns are REALLY controlled there (except in the hands of criminals). As for education - don't get me started - why do so many people from OTHER countries come to the USA for their university education? Because OUR education system is BETTER - that's why! So,,don't throw out statements unless you've actually seen first hand the various governmental systems. I know that socialist and facist are 2 opposite ends of the spectrum - both real bad - and unfortunately, those are the ends of the spectrum that KarlMarx/Hitler Obama will "rule" us from.
