Help Me Thanksgiving Day Prayer

O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.

-Samuel F. Pugh

..........

It is also true that those character traits were possessed and displayed by one group of Americans who don't join in today's celebrations but to whom we owe a debt of gratitude this day - our Native American brothers and sisters whose compassion and goodwill made this day in America even possible:

O' GREAT SPIRIT

help me always
to speak the truth quietly,
to listen with an open mind
when others speak,
and to remember the peace
that may be found in silence.

I'm a dumb ass because you said a middle class family will pay 2800 in taxes and than you claimed "anything above 9.5K is considered middle class ?

Yeah. There are so many silly programs that don't do anything but keep the program administrators employed.

That is by taking a job or position that can normally be done by one person and breaking down that one job or position into 2 or more sub-jobs or sub-positions, each with subsequent lower pay.
All of this under the guise of "safety" or specialization.

It might not you. It could your world view. I don't know if you realize it, but you come off as a small minded simpleton from backwater USA. It's probably not your fault either. Some people have been protected all their life. Protected from diversity and protected from reality. The world outside Mayberry R.F.D. has more than a token minority from each race and ethnicity. In some regions, eye contact alone is reason enough for a fight to break out.
You're posting in the immigration reform forum. That act alone was the "eye contact" that warranted further investigation. Are you here because you favor liberty and justice for all...Or, because you are someone who hates little brown turditos and wants the world to know it? The PACO rebel alliance hasn't taken a liking to you or your world view so I suspect the latter. If that's the case then I guess it's just you.
Our backgrounds and environment generally play a large role in our "world view". I was raised in a Christian/Republican home and have lived in Kentucky my entire life. I have been fortunate to travel a great deal but "small town USA" is where I enjoy living. Has my background and environment protected me from some possible influences? Probably so to some degree.

Although this may be the case, I am not naive and have worked with needy families most of my life. As far as immigration reform, I certainly realize it can lead to an exchange of values and perspectives. Immigration has exposed us to many diverse cultures which has made America what it is. I just want our immigration laws enforced. America is the greatest nation in the world. I understand people of other countries wanting to live in our country, but it must be completed legally. I do not hate anyone no matter their ethnicity or background.

We all have varied opinions of topics on this thread. You certainly have a right to voice yours and I have a right to voice mine. Considering me a "small minded simpleton" is unfair and unreasonable just because my views may not align with yours.

So what exact jobs are you referring to in your little mock Soviet Union example? My suspicion is that you're simply talking out your azz but here's your chance to show us all that you actually know what you're talking about.

I was talking more about programs like "Yellow Ribbon". Soldiers who return from long deployment and separation from family and loved ones are required to attend three yellow ribbon events where they are flown to a destination resort and are put up in a five star hotel for a weekend of sitting through conferences and power point presentations designed to keep them from blowing their own heads off and reintegrate back into society.
For most Soldiers returning from a long separation, the last thing they want to do is to go away again. But that doesn't stop the yellow ribbon program managers from mandating those three additional trips away from home. To make things worse, those trips are on weekends when friends and family could be getting together and having some fun.
Of course the yellow ribbon program managers have an unlimited budget that allows them to basically live at five star destination resorts across the nation and get paid full time plus expenses for doing it. These program managers aren't rank and file Soldiers either. They are all higher ranking officers, senior NCO's and civilians who, as long as they are managing the yellow ribbon program, will not be deployed overseas.
Anyone who says the yellow ribbon program is a waste of tax dollars faces the condemnation of a grateful nation. How dare you say that taking care of Soldiers is a waste of money? Even though the overwhelming number of Soldier surveys indicate that the Yellow Ribbon program is a waste of their time, the program managers simply cherry pick the surveys that boost their program and disregard the rest.
So, we will purchase a round trip plane ticket for hundreds of returning Soldiers to travel across the nation and we will pay for their high dollar rooms and pay for their expensive sandwiches every weekend of every month of every year as long as we continue to send Soldiers off to war. The program will not even end when the war ends either. It will grasp onto any tragedy and point to it as evidence that the program must continue to be funded even though their target clients beg to be left alone to get on with their lives.
Just take that wasted money and give it to the Soldier. Email those power point presentations to them. If the Soldier want's to go to Vegas, he/she can do it at his/her leisure. If not, well they can sped that money on a new rear gear for their off road toy or something. I know that they spend enough money on my yellow ribbon that I could have bought a good used Jeep. Seriously! I would have enjoyed a jeep a whole lot more than those airplane rides and those hotel soaps.
I'll reply later. Gotta go. Have a good thanksgiving.
Enjoy.
