Full story: www.citizen-times.com

The cancellation of thousands of flights this week will cost American Airlines tens of millions of dollars, the company's chief executive said Thursday, but he said the nation's largest carrier can withstand the losses.

It is not the TSA, silly man. The cancellations are a direct result of Bush Administration policies and their criminal partnership with the airlines. The FAA is supposed to be a regulatory agency, and under Bush, it has turned a blind eye to any regulations and layed in bed with the airlines. Senators Oberstar, DeFazio, and Costello are finally trying to put an end to it. Couple that with the illegal and immoral treatment of our nations fine air traffic controllers, and you may want to drive. Of course, oil companies are receiving record profits, gas is $4.00 per gallon, and our road infrastructure is being severly neglected as well. There is not one regulatory agency that the Bush Administration has not staffed with corporate hacks to the detriment of the people. The buzzards have come home to roost. Please stop spreading your misinformation. The truth is out there.

Well, look how much JET FUEL is being saved. All those GROUNDED planes are forcing passengers to crowd onto other planes. Less planes in the air, less FUEL being consumed.

Not too shabby; only 46 minutes for Bush to be blamed for this too. Do you get a penny for every clickthrough to one of these impartial websites?

So, when the truth is written, you attribute it to partisanship. Please take off the rose-colored glasses. The blame lies where it lies. How exactly could a Topix post work with a click through? Why don't you try reading a little bit instead of commenting blindly. If you like pink-misted aluminum showers, well then, never mind.

Just about every website is written by a formwr or current air traffic controller, the same individuals who keep America safe every day. These insider professionals can be trusted with your lives while you hurtle through space at 500 mph, but when they suddenly speak the truth that disagrees with your stilted ideology, they are no longer to be trusted? The FAA is failing, America, due to lack of oversight by the current White House leadership. It needs to be put back as a regulatory agency, and not as a partner to those very corporations it is tasked by the American taxpayer to oversee. This has nothing to do with partisan politics and everything to do with the safety of Americans.

But watch! Next thing we know, the government will be bailing out American Airlines, at taxpayer expense.

Hey pal, you brought up Bush. Airplane maintenence isn't the purvue of controllers anyway. They just have an ax to grind [somewhat legitimate I might add] with the FAA, but that fact wasn't dislosed in you post.

If there's a problem, the buck should stop first at the Administrator and then the Sec'y of Transportation. While an agency of the Executive branch, Congress also execises oversight of the FAA and controls funding, so they bear responsiblility as well.

The conflicting mission of the FAA didn't start with the Bush Administration.

Plus, this current fiasco will probably turn out to be a gross overreaction.

I'm no friend of the FAA (I'm a private pilot) but we should all approach the problems with the intent of solving them and not placing blame on the party you don't like. But that's not as much fun, is it?

I should not even dignify this with a response. I was a lifelong Republican, but not anymore. Call me an Independant. This has nothing to do with ideology. The Secretary is on direct orders from the White House. Controllers are interested in every aspect of safety. What do you think happens to a controller when a plane drops from the sky on their frequency. This is not ax grinding. This is unvarnished truth, but, since you clearly can only see through ideologically-colored glasses, the truth lies nowhere near reality for you. You're damn right I brought up Bush. The buck stops there. Nowhere else. The President serves at the pleasure of the people, not the other way around.
