Atheist Islamophobia... Again

Apr 9, 2013 Full story: Religion Dispatched 3,766

Sparked by a Richard Dawkins tweet , in which he drew a parallel between Islamists and Nazis, Nathan Lean recently suggested on Salon.com that the most famous representatives of the new atheism "flirt with" Islamophobia [echoing Chris Stedman's prescient warning to fellow atheists on RD this past August]. As the article explains, Dawkins, Hitchens ... (more)

I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics.
Goody, goody for you. So what the the frequency of the photon emitted when an electron in hydrogen drops from the n=3 level to the n=2 level?
You do not understand Quantum Theory, Relativity, String Theory, etc, if you do not conclude God is there!!!
I can guarantee I understand all of those better than you. You see, I have aced all my PhD level classes in physics as well as passing the PhD qualifying exams. The only thing I am missing for a PhD in physics is a dissertation topic.

Nothing in physics implies the existence of a God.
You think that the three dimensions you see is all there is!
Spacetime is 4 dimensional. If you want to make string theory consistent, 11 dimensions is nice.
Idiots did not believe in the electricity they could not see nor measure!!!
But we *do* measure it. What do you think Volta, Franklin, Ampere, and Faraday did?
Do you believe in electricity you do not see?
Measuring is not the same as seeing.
Do you believe in a higher spatial dimenssion you do not see?
Of that, we have no evidence. Jury is out.
Maybe the ignorant who claims the Earth is flat and there are is no God is you!!!
No, the earth is not flat and no, there is no God.

Unicorns are not mentioned in any of the modern translations. Only in the King James version are they mentioned. Most of the modern translations say “wild ox.” Some translations even say “buffalo.”
Isn't that nice? Your ugly BuyBull is being edited... AGAIN... to fit modern reality. Sort of....

Yes they did.... how convenient.

However, many Christian apologists are insistent that the King James Version is the most accurate of all the English translations. So because of this, some people, especially atheists, like to scoff at the Bible and make fun of it as a book of myths and fairy tales.
However, it is important to understand that the definition of the word “unicorn” has changed over time.
So? It's still a myth and a fairy-tale, regardless of how many apologies you have to make of it.

LOL!

And that's enough of YOU.... the rest of your word-wall goes unread...

Do you accept that observation affects physical results?
Physics 101.
It is more accurate that interaction with an environment affects the results of an experiment. Look up decoherence.

How you design an experiment will affect the types of results you get. If your experiment allows the detection of electrons after going through the double slit, the interference pattern will not appear.

I would suggest that the vast majority of the 'perplexing results' come from assuming that the particles act like *classical* particles: that they have definite properties at all times. That is not how quantum particles act.

Yes, if you insist on using classical notions to interpret quantum mechanics, you will be perplexed.

Many of the things Blood says are interesting, but he does miss one of the main problems in QM. When we shine an electron beam on a detector, the electrons are described by a wave function, but we only actually detect discrete and consistent bursts. THAT is why we have the wave-particle duality. The same happens with photons, protons, and any other quantum particle.

Physics already proven that mater is nothing than waves.
But not classical waves. In particular, those waves are always detected as discrete bursts, not as continuous flows.
But what if I call those waves spirit?
Then you would be an idiot.
Further more, what if that wave/spirit is as "alive" and "conscious" as the bunch of particles that make your body?
What if?
Any actual evidence of this? No, of course not. Life is a complex system of *chemical* interactions and happens much higher than the quantum interactions you are talking about.
if a wave function defines a particle can a spirit function define a person?
Only if the characteristics of wave-particle duality are HOLOGRAPHIC AND FRACTAL!!!
Is there any "particle" holographic AND fractal?
Electron is to matter as cells is to a living body.
Are cells holographic AND fractal?
Holographic if they contain all the DNA of a living creature; nose, eye color, hair color, blood type, etc.
Do they? Does a single cell has everything needed to recreate its living source? Can we clone cells?
If the answer is yes then YOU ARE WRONG and PhD scientists are right.
Are cells fractal? Are organs made of cells? Do cell reproduce into identical cells?
If the answer is yes then YOU ARE WRONG and PhD scientists are right.
You are simply spouting random verbiage. None of it makes any actual sense.

Most nutjobs sites do. They take a fact from here and another fact from here and soon they have "facts" saying bigfoot is real, elvis is alive and pumping gas in new mexico etc..
all I ask is show me ONE mainstream historian that states Hitler was a practicing catholic and believed Catholic doctrine. Just one is all I am asking.

I think this misses the point.

There is plenty of evidence that Hitler publicly took religion and religious belief as seriously as many people, Pres Obama for instance. There are plenty of quotes from either of them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_views_...
What of his private beliefs and how did they alter over time? We don't know. For all we know, Hitler was as sincere a R-Catholic as Obama is a Christian - which, possibly, might be 'not at all', or marginal. This discussion shows how difficult it is to improve society to the extent that atheism is as understood and acceptable as religionism.

For all his Catholicism, sincere or tougue-in-cheek, it didn't make him or his society from Nazism which was an ideology neither motivated nor impeded by religion/atheism.

There's a saying I'm considering: when Hitler is brought into a discussion, its might be time to abandon it.

What level of knowledge is implied by a B.S. or a B.A. in physics? Do martinezjosei's posts reflect that level of understanding? Do some of the Christian colleges, accredited or not, teach ideas in physics that might be considered unscientific in the larger community of physicists? In other words, is there any justifiable basis for questioning his claim to have such a degree?

I was wondering. I remember that you wrote in a post three or four years ago that you were working towards a PhD in physics, but I also gathered that you were teaching full time as well. It sounds like you still have a year or two to go, but congrats on your progress so far.

When you think you know everything, they give you a bachelor's degree. When you realize you don't know anything, you've earned a master's degree. When you realize no one else knows anything, you get a PhD.

it thought it was teenagers that know everything.

When i was a teenager, my father was incredibly ignorant, then i went away to university and lived in the real world for a few years and when i came home, i was amazed at how much the old boy had learned in such a short time...
