Maybe they should seriously look at getting electric cars or smaller motorcyle type vehicles. I live in a small neighborhood. The mailman drives about 20 feet, stopping from house to house, at each mailbox. That has to use alot of gas, and the truck stinks.
Good point. They should maybe even go back to pushing those cute little three-wheeled bag carrier thingies like you always see in movies about suburbia.

And the exercise would do them good too.

I will have to try that. The method I use is to remove the ink from used stamp with polish remover. Another method that works is to cut parts of two identical stamps that arent stamped and glue them together.
I think postal fraud is a federal crime.

Pretty risky, considering the payout is pratically nonexistent.

Hey, The postal workers can't even read the adress on the letters going just down the street.
I get my dads mail,he lives in Ky and I live in Tn. totally different state.
In that case, blame the sorting machines, not the carriers.

I don't think the issue is rising postal prices as much as it is what little service we get in return. I've lived abroad much of my life and the US has relatively low postal rates in comparison. But it other countries you actually get what you pay for. What am I paying for in the US...mail not addressed to me, letters that take several days to cross town, long lines at postal services while dozens of workers read the paper in the back, unskilled workers that make more than those with skills and education. Unfortunately, the postal service, like other government agencies, would be efficiently run if outsourced.

I wish the post office would just bump it 50 cents and get it over with. It is trying to keep up with the price changes that annoy me the most. It is not like I am doing a mass mailing anywhere I just want to mail my bills but the amount fluctuates every other month or so. I would like to use the post office more for identity theft reasons but it has become a PIA. I no longer have a postal box out in front of the house that I had for years and now must walk a block. Now the main post office three miles down the highway does not even have a mailbox outside. What’s that about? You have to park the car and walk in to mail a letter. Postal and Service used to be synonymous, what happened?

Anybody need these 1,2,3 cent stamps I have all over the house?

US Postal service is a legalized rip-off. They increase rates without even making any public announcement! And, what do we get for this increased rate? Lost and delayed mail, rude postal employees or crazy postmen? NO matter, at the end, US Postal will loose business to other ( more reliable) carriers, so they will have no choice but to increase rate more, and soon!!
no announcement? huh? where have you been the last 2 years?

It does boggle the modern mind how the USPS brass can't come up with any ideas how to stop going into debt. Stop 6 day delivery. Stop junk mail or charge premium. Junk mail just goes from the box to the recycle box in most homes (it would also help the environment as well). USPS like the government is probably too top heavy in salaries and employees at the Admin-level. Employee turn over must be high--so training cost must kill them. The counter people are extremely rude--when you do come across someone friendly--they fire them! I had a very nice counter person once and I told her so--but she told me that she was warned that she was "too nice" and would be fired if she continued! Then a counter person told me once that he had the authority to make me open a package to prove that I didn't hide a card inside the book I was mailing! So, something is so screwed up in this company. They now act like we are all terrorist hiding things like birthday cards in our packages. They are very twisted these postal counter people and come across as mean. No wonder people don't want to go there. Again, something is very wrong with the people running USPS--since they are in so much debt--why aren't the top brass held accountable like every other business?

the USPS has too many rules and regulations to cut back to a 5 day delivery schedule, it was discussed but it is cheaper to keep the six day schedule , as far and "junk mail" is concerned, if it weren't for 3rd and 4th class mail there wouldnt be any mail to deliver, since the advent of the internet the first class mail volume has dropped considerably, in order for the USPS to survive they have discounted junk mail considerably, believe it or not stamps and package service are the backbone of the current day USPS revenue, and at 42 cents still a bargain
because unlike private firms , the postal service cannot raise stamp prices because for example fuel costs like UPS or FEDEX , they have the postal rate commission which decides the amount if any, to raise one penny from 41 cents is like a fuel surcharge , go overseas and send a letter it costs anywhere from 55 to 1.95 for just a letter, too bad they gave away the parcel business to UPS or the prices may have stayed at 23 cents!!

and what do you expect behind the counters, a high school diploma and a decent grasp of the english language is all that is required, they take a test to become window clerks, they belong to the clerk union get paid well (top pay grade 5
$46k plus, overtime and double time when necessary). Their nasty demeanor at times is related to their immediate supervisors demands, we are no longer in the business of mail its more like a shell game, discipline and firings, because higher ups in management want to make a name for themselves at the expense of the backbone of the service, the clerks and the letter carriers, its a sad scenario but with 875,000 employees across the US, Caribbean and Puerto Rico and with 3 major unions covering the employees its no wonder they havent gone belly up , but that time may come unless something is done.

and for those of you that hate junk mail, talk to your letter carrier and their utility floater(on the regulars day off), you can fill out a form to stop junk mail delivery to your address or go to the post office and ask to speak to a delivery supervisor, that will alleviate the amount of garbage in your cans!

misdeliveries do happen but with the kind of volume and the training of new employees its bound to happen , get on the phone , call your local post office and speak to a delivery supervisor, its their job to ensure an accurate and on time delivery to your residence or business or go to www.usps.com and go to contact us with any and all requests if you do not care to talk to an actual employee , the supervisors must log in daily to an automated internet site and resolve any and all issues so it is available for the public, everyone is entitled to good service make your voices heard.

I wonder, would they accept a letter that's covered in 42 1-cent stamps?

Definitely worth to at least try!

Yes they will -- I already did a similar montage awhile back. Not all the stamps were 1 penny however I did have enough variety to be decorative.

I can't believe the D*MBARSE people on this blog.
you're right...and you're one of them...

When demand is high...prices go up.
If demand goes down, prices go down...BUT...if demand goes down too low, prices also go up, in order to make up for the lack of demand, in hopes to bring in more money while selling less...
