I just ordered a "We can do it!" T-shirt featuring Sarah Palin as Rosie the Riveter. After I've worn it a few days, I'll let y'all know what the local feminists had to say about it.

The Democrats sell "Hyphen Politics" - it's not who you really are or what you really say and do - or, as MLK once said "the content of your character" - it's what type of "Hyphen" you carry!

What group do you belong to?

What "Received Wisdom" reactionary doctrinaire rhetoric are you willing to blindly accept and then goosestep behind?

Just tell us Mein Führer ("Leadership"), when shall we Party Members march forward to soap those bad shopkeeper's windows and ban those bad local musicians?

Folks, there's nothing older in America than "New Politics"

But, there is still an even older rule in American politics.

YOU NEVER WANT TO LET THEM SEE YOU BEAT YOUR WIFE.

So, sorry Dirty Demos. But, EVERYBODY SAW your candidate rudely slapping ALL AMERICAN WOMEN right in their sweet innocent little patriotic kissers.

Eighteen Million Registered Democrats cast their SECRET BALLOT for Mrs Clinton.

The stated reason for not picking Hillary was that "she represented old politics".

But, folks, who represents "older" politics than somebody like Joe Biden?

Sorry dudes, but, this is American Politics. You wanna live by the "Hyphen"? You can die by the "Hyphen" too!

The "We can do it!" image is not Rosie the Riveter.

I fear for your safety...I was almost assaulted the other day when I said that I was voting for McCain.

Don't you love the diversity here!

They're wrong, look it up. Rosie the Riveter was by Norman Rockwell. "We can do it!" by Miller, was not Rosie the Riveter.

We're both correct but in an odd way (I love learning new things)- from Wikipedia:

The image most iconically associated with Rosie is J. Howard Miller's famous poster for Westinghouse, entitled We Can Do It!, which was modeled on Michigan factory worker Geraldine Doyle in 1942.[11][12]
However, the picture was not meant to represent a character called Rosie the Riveter at all.[2] Penny Colman writes that "Since the 1970s, this poster has been mistakenly labeled Rosie the Riveter and has been reprinted on posters, magazine covers, and many other items."[13] Norman Rockwell used the Rosie name for his cover for the May 29, 1943 Saturday Evening Post, which depicted a different model (Mary Doyle Keefe).[14][15] It is not clear whether Rockwell had seen the Miller poster, but he admitted that "I made a mistake in the detail that people will be calling me down for. The cover shows Rosie with goggles on and a risinglass protective shield." Keefe was paid $5 a day for two mornings' sittings. On May 22, 2002, Rockwell's painting of Rosie the Riveter was auctioned by Sotheby's for $4,959,500.

So that would make me correct and you (along with a bunch of other people) mistaken, but I quibble...;-) I love learning new things too and am frankly thrilled that we can all research everything so readily now!

I'm impressed that you knew that - someday I'll be able to quibble! I have a lot of these odd little pieces of knowledge bouncing around my head, so now I can add that one to the mix.

Okay, here's a fun question to ponder - when does a mistake like this change from being an error to taking on a life of it's own and become part of folklore/history?(obviously there's no "right" answer - just a fun thought)

Hmm... I wonder if a local survey were taken (particularly among faculty women at UCSC and Cabrillo College), how many would identify the "We can do it!" woman as Rosie the Riveter? I don't mean that some live model (with a different name) posed for it; I mean the intention.

In any case, the T-shirt features SP as the "We can do it!" woman. I won't be voting for McCain (or Obama), but I love to tick off the locals.

I ordered a shirt size slightly larger than I take, because most of the local feminists seem to be more pudgy than I am.(Just in case they want to buy the shirt from me.)

OK, just for kicks I went to that union site, clicked on Health Care. Hmmm. "Lead employers to eliminate benefits." That's a description of OBAMA's plan, not McCains.

No, Eddie, I assure you I will NOT go to Obama after seeing that site. In fact, it's making me run faster to McCain and Palin.

Thanks anyway, and good luck with that.

The mis-identification taking on a life of its own? I would guess that it is very common. For one thing, if I had known the whole story, and written "Sarah Palin as Geraldine Doyle," there would have been great puzzlement.

In this case, no harm done. But sadly, even among college instructors, I have heard urban legends mentioned as facts, in cases that do matter.

Trivia question: When the Third Reich surrendered, Hitler was not its fuehrer (he had already died). Who was, and why?
