So, Bush is running for a third term?
Obama has a chance ONLY if no one looks too closely at him...what qualifies him to be President?

At least the current President had been a successful two-term governor of one of the largest states, Texas. He had chief executive experience. He also had business experience. What kind of experience does Obama have other than 4-5 years as a senator. He's going to have a very steep learning curve the first year or two in office. |
What qualified Bush, less experienced in actual government than Obama. |

Nigerians have learned to attack oil lines to scare up the prices for their oil. Are you sure about geothermal. |

I read a piece in the news the other day where one senator complained that the congress would not invest in geothermal claiming it was the best renewable source for our energy needs. To obtain geothermal energy, all that's needed, is to drill holes in the ground, until they reach points underground, where steam builds-up. |

Have you ever thought that in order to get geothermal to work you can play by the rule of the natives? Now, if its a sacrifice that they demand, one can easily draw energy from geothermal sites in Hawaii without offending the "goddess" by performing the necessary native rituals. Have you ever thought about that? No, I think the fossil-fuel cartel is against geothermal energy production, not the natives. Most natives do not have air-conditioning in the schools and homes so I suspect they would be in favor of geothermal production. Air pollution from geothermal production would be far less than the air pollution from the local Chevron facility. When I was there, Chevron experienced a toxic chemical release and warnings were posted all over the islands.

ANSWER:
Biomass energy systems that do not rely on waste material (for example short rotation woody crops for energy) require large quantities of land because solar energy is diffuse. An optimistic source I have gives a figure of 403 acres per megawatt of electricity. With a typical large coal plant producing 1,200 megawatts, it would require a biomass plant with 483,600 acres (~ 756 square miles) of energy crops to replace it. Using a more pessimistic estimate of 5 square kilometers per megawatt, then 6,000 sq km (~ 2,200 square miles) of biomass plantation would be required. Round it to between 1,000 and 2,000 square miles, to replace just ONE large coal plant. In the case of Hawaii, geothermal is an obvious choice, but the people there have decided not to use it for a number of reasons, including fear of offending the volcano goddess, air pollution, and feeding the greed of the state's power monopoly. |

By the way, I copy and pasted my last 2 posts from a geothermal site.

So, being a governor for two terms is less meaningful than being a state legislator for two terms, and a senator for just over three years?
|
|
Only if you look at his record. |
|
|
OK, I'll bite.
What has Obama accomplished as a legislator going by his record? Please show an example where Obama was the LEADER on the issue, not just simply voting for or against. I've yet to get a clear answer from anyone concerning this, and I'd really like some details.
