Ruling motivates Romney supporters

Full story: The Washington Post

If conservatives needed any more motivation to unseat President Obama, they got it Thursday from the Supreme Court, which provided fresh political opportunities for Mitt Romney even as it handed the president a legal victory.

In the mid-1990s, state senator Palmer attended a number of political meetings at the Chicago-area home of her friends and ideological allies, former Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn. At those gatherings, Palmer developed a friendly relationship with another attendee, a young aspiring politician named Barack Obama.

As late as 1994, Palmer was known to be working closely with members of the Committees of Correspondence, a Communist Party USA splinter group.

In 1995, Palmer decided to pursue an opportunity to run for a higher political office when Mel Reynolds, the congressman from Illinois’ 2nd District, resigned from the House of Representatives amid scandal.

As Palmer prepared to leave the state senate, she hand-picked Barack Obama as the person she most wanted to fill her newly vacated senate seat. Toward that end, she introduced Obama to party elders and donors as her preferred successor, and helped him gather the signatures required for getting his name placed on the ballot.

But in November 1995, Jesse Jackson, Jr. defeated Palmer in a special election for Reynolds’ empty congressional seat. At that point, Palmer filed to retain the Democratic nomination for the state senate seat she had encouraged Obama to pursue; that seat would be up for grabs in the November 1996 elections. She asked Obama to politely withdraw from the race and offered to help him find an alternative position elsewhere.

But Obama refused to withdraw, so Palmer resolved to run against him (and against two other opponents who also had declared their candidacy) in the 1996 Democratic primary. To get her name placed on the ballot, Palmer hastily gathered the minimum number of signatures required. Obama promptly challenged the legitimacy of those signatures and charged Palmer with fraud. A subsequent investigation found that a number of the names on Palmer’s signature list were technically invalid, thus she was knocked off the ballot.(Names could be eliminated from a candidate's petition for a variety of reasons. For example, if a name was printed rather than written in cursive script, it was considered invalid. Or if the person collecting the signatures was not registered to perform that task, any signatures that he or she had collected likewise were nullified.)

Obama also successfully challenged the signatures gathered by his other two opponents, and both of them were disqualified as well. As a result, Obama ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and won by default.

“I liked Alice Palmer a lot,” Obama would later reflect.“I thought she was a good public servant. It [the process by which Obama got Palmer's name removed from the ballot] was very awkward. That part of it I wish had played out entirely differently.”

After leaving public office, Palmer was hired as an associate professor by the University of Illinois' College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs. She held that post from 1996 to 2003, when she retired.

In 2008 Palmer endorsed Hillary Clinton for U.S. President. In 2011, she supported Danny Davis in his run for mayor of Chicago against former Obama aide Rahm Emanuel.

These are the CV & Creds you need to be a POTUS
in todays USA..

I was writing facetiously, but the point was that if the name of the game is to beat Obama at all costs, why not nominate Hillary?
The name of the game is to beat Obama at all cost? I'll pass thanks,I want a president with a brain.Im not going to vote for a wanna be president, that flip flops like he belongs in an aquatic fish show, just to oust Obama. The republican party had years to prepare for this election, and they messed up ,big time.Perhaps they picked a man that has no conviction in anything. Perhaps they picked a cartoon character to represent the American people.
This attitude about voting for anyone just to beat Obama is hogwash! Its immature, irresponsible and Un American! It's like saying," I am going to turn into a Satanist ,because religion sucks."
Why don't you just cut off your foot before you all stick it so far up your Az, that you cant get it out anymore.
This attitude is disturbing and I am sick of it!
The republican party better wake up before they ruin what is left of their credibility.

What flip flops?

Does it bother you that a major campaign fund bundler for Obama was a Bain Capital CEO? Jonathan Lavine, the outsourcer.

I am not bothered by Mitt being a CEO at Bain capital, and sucking the companies dry at the expense of the middle class ,while bagging the bucks, and sending them to offshore accounts to avoid fair taxation.I am not bothered by the fact that he is pro and then anti abortion.I am not bothered by the fact that he instilled Romney care(Obamacare) in Massachusetts while governor, raised taxes 4 years in a row and essentially changed the monetary demographics of the entire state, while shifting money into the hands of state legislators.None of these questionable activities bother me, they p*ss me off, but they don't bother me. I am bothered by his constant change in conviction, or should I say total lack of conviction. Why, just last week he did not believe the healthcare mandate was a tax and two days later he back tracked ,changed his mind and said it was a tax.Its like he is suffering from Alzheimer's or something.I am currently watching my ageing parents go through similar crisis, and I realize that they are not aware of what is really going on.I just do not want to take the chance with a country of over 300 million people. It's bad enough for a small family.Do ya get my drift?

None of us feel the mandate is a tax. Judge Roberts said it was a tax. A behavior tax is very dangerous in a supposed free society. I believe he clarified the position stating it is a tax because the supreme court said it was a tax. The supreme court saying it is a tax is the only thing that makes it a tax. That doesn't change any belief he has about it not being a tax. It's like the sky is green because the supreme court says it's green, but doesn't change your belief that the sky is blue. The sky is legally green because the supreme court said it was. That makes the sky green.

The man who was sending jobs overseas at Bain Cap. is now a money bundler for Obama.

What a state does is a state's business. A number of states have a healthcare system. That doesn't mean they believe a federal government should impose a single control over various systems. Romney wasn't King of Massachusetts, he had a very liberal legislature to work with, I repeat, work WITH.

What a governor does as a leader of a state doesn't change a personal belief. The governor of NY was pro life, but governed a state of pro-choicers and went with pro choice legislation. That isn't flip flopping to me. A good indication he won't push his personal beliefs on the public.

Any investment he had was done through a blind trust and the taxes were paid. You understand what a blind trust is, don't you? If you were referring to moving the proceeds of the investments to an IRA, we all do that.
