More "opinion"? Not from FAUX but from Pravda.

I agree... I think people should be paid by piece. This way, the harder you work, the more you earn... literally. It is the ulitimate expression of taking responsibility for oneself. Of course the cooperative would have to agree on a method of maintaining quality; otherwise people would be compelled to do fast, sloppy work to increase their income.

I think people voluntarily forming an economic collective is a good thing but only if they leave others to do what they need to do to provide for themselves as well. It's why my first comment here pondered why the Hostess employees don't do such a thing and then I concluded it's because they think that is the responsibility of others, as if there is some organic being called the "employer" who exists to provide for them.
To add to my earlier post... I think your idea about Hostess employees forming a collective is actually brilliant! I would love to see people take initiative on something like that. However, there are reasons why that concept hasn't occurred to but very few people (like you and me) and I will do my best to explain... The reason why the Hostess employees didn't form a collective like you described in your above post is because as things stand such a collective today would basically be called a "union"; and that is FAR from the collective you and I are talking about. The way business runs today anywhere you find businesses (with a very minute few exceptions of course), there are two sides... labor and management. They must negotiate between each other on compensation and benefits etc. Most of the power in that negotiation is in the hands of management. Unions and businesses in general operate based solely on that premise. There would be no real way for Hostess' employees to step in place of the failed Hostess' organization with a collective and corner their market without the right financial resources and a change in that whole premise. Otherwise we would end up with yet another version of the same failed thing. Trust me on that. Long story short... people don't really know how to organize themselves in that way because we've been taught since birth that the current system of organized hierarchy is the way things have to be. The reason people look to employers to organize labor is because in our current system, that is really all that's available. People don't know any other way. Of course there are independent businesses... but to organize on a scale large enough to fill the Hostess void, you would need large scale cooperation and people just can't seem to grasp that concept unless there is some kind of management involved. It's sad really. In order to move forward into the types of labor collectives that would be more widely beneficial for people, we are going to have to change our entire mentality about hierarchy as a nation and a world.

Hey numbnuts, I don't know where you got the idea that people are going to read your 500 word posts on a chat board but I suspect it is the usual leftist arrogance. People are no more interested in your gasbag blabbering on here then in your real life.

I see your type on these threads all the time. You come on here and throw a quick insult because you have absolutely nothing of any value to say. You're afraid if you DO make an attempt at saying something with any "intellect", you'll be torn to shreds. It's easier to just throw an insult and not think beyond one or two sentences. You're a coward on here, but you're probably an even bigger coward in real life. Everybody knows anonymity make people brave. You're pathetic.

good for Hostess, they can sell the brand names for all their products, disburse the money and shut it down. Let the unions open their own bakery and manage themselves. there are many brilliant libs in topix that would volunteer to be CEO and probably forgo their pay, or make the same as the line workers. power to the people.
