Just to put this in perspective, president Obama would probably say the same theing about Kim Kardashian or Fidel Castro.

Obama likes the man, but doesn't embrace what he stands for.

If he did embrace what the Pope stands for, he'd run out and get baptized Catholic.

Short of that, it just looks like a mutual admiration society.

(Did Obama do the submissive act of BOWING and KISSING the Pope's ring?)

I feel sure Pope Francis supports many of Obama's aims, especially those regarding help for the poor and suffering. The pope is well liked by well over 70% of the American people, and the Republican obstructionists may find themselves in hot water if Obama gets the pope's backing.

There is a HUGE DISCONNECT between the ABILITY of the Pope and the ability of Obama to help the poor.

The Vatican has BILLIONS of dollars in reserves, Obama has NOTHING but TRILLIONS in DEBT.

Who would be better situated to actually do something to HELP the poor?

I'm not referring to The Vatican's wealth, obscene though it is. I'm referring to the pope's bully pulpit in support of Obama's aims. And while it is true that we are in debt, there are still choices to be made on how we allocate what resources we have.

P.S.
Your seemingly random emphasis on ALL-CAPS does little to strengthen your opinions. You seem too smart to resort to such silliness.

'all-caps', doesn't quite cut it <LOL>

As your above use of ALL-CAPS seems to conflict with your statement.

Pope John Paul I died mysteriously in his sleep when he tried to change things in the church, especially when it came to the Vatican Bank.

Pope John Paul I, since his first day as a Pope, started showing to have a tendency to change things and habits within the Church:

He refused to use the majestic plural;
He refused to be crowned during the first official ceremony;
He refused to wear the Papal Tiara (he had chosen to wear the Pallium);
He stated to be "open minded" about contraception for some conditions;
He didn't love the Opus Dei

I fear for Pope Francis because he's trying to change the church from centuries of corruption to the basics of what Jesus did in the bible. Jesus didn't have a banking account and said to give to the poor.

Here's the latest on Pope Francis firing Cardinals who were basically overseers of the Vatican Bank.

From the Boston Globe 3/27/14:

VATICAN CITY — President Barack Obama and the Vatican gave distinctly different accounts of the president’s audience with Pope Francis on Thursday, with Obama stressing their common ground on poverty and inequality but Vatican officials emphasizing sharp differences over Obama’s health care law which mandates contraception coverage.

The Vatican, in a statement shortly after the meeting, said discussions centered on questions of particular relevance for the church in the U.S.,‘‘such as the exercise of the rights to religious freedom, life and conscientious objection’’— issues that have fueled divisions between Obama and the church."

i have to agree...the Vatican is the wealthiest entity on this planet and has been for centuries...they have long had the ability to work against poverty but most of their policies actually promote poverty.
i have seen absolutley nothing this pope has done to change that...nothing. he talks a lot about it but none of the policies that promote it have changed at all...

Being progressive is not going end the problems of the world. I know it is not popular today, but things seems to be worse then the recent past.This Pope must be watched. People do not have to be part of the Church, but it must return to traditional teachings.

yes, the rape, murder and torture of the past was the best! maybe they should go back to having the office of the pope purchased by the highest bidder!

Evil men can co opt organizations for power and money. Even religious ones. What the hell do you think is going to replace what you hate? It already has to a degree in the West and expanding. Your way as a progressive is doomed to failure. Your way as a libertarian stand s a chance. Unfortunately that is not happening. So the religious cult as you call it gives up its influence to another entity. You deal with the devil now. Anything goes and all life is expendable. Cult freaks that try to follow laws of common sense. Now go watch the elitist contrived Noah movie that will vomit itself into theaters this weekend. Secular humanism to the max. Insane i tell you. Insane...
